Greetings!
Question  

Many people think if they don't have big issues with their horse, they don't need to learn and use the proper language to communicate with horses.  What are your thoughts on this matter?


Answer  

Many people think a lot of things. It is not for me to say that their system, whatever it is, is not as good as mine. If they are happy with what they do, keep doing it. But the more we learn, the more we know. Those who believe they have the best system often find that the use of the proper language to communicate with horses is superior if they take the time to understand it. I often say to my students "My way is the only way for me today, but if you show me a better way, that will be my way tomorrow.” I am still learning. My techniques have morphed in such a way so as to improve right up to this very day.

The fourth week in June 2020 is being held for the third annual event that centers on the qualities of horses to teach us how to lower stress and build trust at Monty Roberts’ Flag Is Up Farms, in Solvang, California.
Dr. Temple Grandin , professor of animal science at Colorado State University, consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior, and autism spokesperson is one of the first individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experience of autism and its relation to animals. Dr. Grandin will discuss autism, the flight animal and its advantage in working with horses. Whether you are a member of the autism community or horse community, you will find Temple’s presentation unforgettable.
“Autism helped me understand animals because I think in pictures. Since animals do not have language, their memories have to be sensory-based instead of word-based, ” said Dr. Temple Grandin.
