Your Quarterly News & Updates
We hope to grab your attention for a quick moment to thank you for your support, business and friendship throughout the year. Our five core values are the foundation of our culture and they start with "our people." Our people perform, do the right thing, take pride in their work, drive innovation, and serve the community. See what's new in the world of mechanical contracting.

Our featured case study this quarter is a National Historic Landmark, the Andrew Mellon Building located on Embassy Row one block off DuPont  Circle in DC. Completed in 1917, the building was originally an apartment building that was home to many distinguished personalities including Andrew W. Mellon who served as the Secretary of the Treasury from 1921-1932. Today, the building is home to the American Enterprise Institute.

Shapiro & Duncan's scope of work required installation of new mechanical and plumbing systems in the existing 5-story building plus penthouse. This project posed many challenges for Shapiro & Duncan, including a massive demolition and reconstruction effort since existing floors were not structurally sound to support the new systems. The risk of damage or disturbance to the historic interior finishes was a concern, but often compounded by the  by unforeseen conditions and frequent inaccuracies discovered by our team in dimensions and the building structure. Find out how our team was able to find the most efficient system routing through the existing building structure, as well as plan alternate routes when structural records were found to be inaccurate.
