Our senior class visited Inductotherm (a global leader in metal processing, induction melting, heating and holding systems- founded by Henry Rowan) on a field trip in March as part of our new Senior Lead Onward Capstone course. Students were all tasked with doing some soul-searching and research to develop a two-week project for the last two weeks of May. On the field trip, Josh spoke with some leaders at Inductotherm and asked if he could perhaps do his 2-week capstone internship there; this has now evolved into a full summer internship. Josh will be working with the Human Resources Department at Inductotherm this spring and summer.

This past weekend Doane Academy hosted the inaugural Changemakers Conference. Over 50 students—from our own campus, and visiting schools like Christina Seix Academy—came together to explore how to create tangible, positive change in their communities. The keynote speaker, Shane Claiborne, challenged all to rethink violence and transformation. He shared stories of turning guns into garden tools—and gifted our school two tools made from decommissioned weapons along with a powerful metal “LOVE” sign crafted from gun parts. His message sparked a deep conversation about how students can lead the charge to change policies around gun violence.
Students also connected with Doane's own changemakers, including the Lead Onward class working to build our community garden, and freshman Sydney Cain, who led a tour of the space.
A powerful panel discussion—moderated by senior Leah Seche—featured insights from Jane Shuster (NJ State Comptroller’s Office), Rev. David Brown (Civic Coalition to Save Lives), and student leaders Isabella Klingelhoefer and Cheryl Oluwaseun-Apo.
It was a day of bold ideas, tough conversations, and radical hope. Our students left inspired, equipped, and ready to make a difference.

The crew team sent 3 boats to participate in the 2025 Stotesbury Cup Regatta this past weekend in Philadelphia. 180 teams from around the US and Canada came to the largest high school regatta in the WORLD. There were nearly 4800 athletes competing over the 2 day race. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate and conditions became too dangerous to race on the second day: meaning that the final results were based on Friday’s racing.
The JV girls, JV boys and Varsity 4 all posted their best times of the season, shaving 20-30 seconds off of their previous best times. The JV girls and Varsity boats each beat a handful of their competition.
Crew is not a sport that is measured by wins and losses. We focus on steady and consistent improvement. Every Doane rower in every boat improved this season and our results are very encouraging for the future. We have a young team who are eager to improve. That is all we can ask for.
• The coaches would like to offer special thanks and love to all of our rowers and our crew families. We ask a lot from you, and we appreciate all you do and the commitment you have shown. We could not do it without you. Thank you.
• To our graduating seniors - We love you, and will miss you. Great things are ahead of you. Go get them!

Students from Concert Choir (MS & US), 3rd through 5th grades, and string players in those grades brought the stage to life in the Spring Choir & Strings Concert this past Thursday night. From singing in Latin, to singing music that is socially responsive to the world’s needs, to being your best self, to defying gravity in singing songs from ‘Wicked’ ...our talented musicians rocked the house.

Eight students in 3rd-5th grade participated in Camping Club this spring. Each week they learned and practiced new skills such as shelter buidling, fire building and cooking, making paracord bracelets, reading topographical maps, and orienteering! This past weekend, a few of the families went camping at Belleplain State Forest and enjoyed fishing, kayaking, campfire cooking, games, and even some hammock camping.

The DEI team announces Doane's book club for teachers and parents, designed to engage families in dialogue that helps us better understand, empathize, and communicate with each other despite our differences.
For our book club, we have first chosen the book Beyond Your Bubble, by Dr. Tania Israel. Dr. Israel, a psychology professor at UC Santa Barbara, wrote this book in the wake of the 2016 election, in response to the overwhelming division in our nation. This book combines clinical research, and tangible skills to teach us how to have meaningful conversations with people we disagree with. Not only is this a timely book to read during an election year, these skills are transferable to discussions of race, class, gender, and so much more.
Four dates we have been set aside to come together, discuss the book, and how to apply these skills with our students, families, and each other. If you would like to be a part of the Changemakers Book Club please sign up here.
You can find the book available on Amazon.
