The following letter was submitted by 2022 Select Board Candidate Mark Dockser
Dear Neighbors,
I want to thank the community for re-electing me to another term on the Select Board. I am humbled by your support and thrilled with the opportunity to continue to serve and to make Reading the most welcoming community it can be to residents, visitors and businesses.
I spoke with all of my fellow board members on Tuesday evening, Karen Herrick, Chris Haley, Carlo Bacci, and newly elected member Jackie McCarthy. They offered their congratulations and I reiterated to them my desire to work with them leading the town ahead. I also received a nice call from Nancy Towadros in which she offered her congratulations on my re-election.
Like our nation, our town faces a sharp political divide. However, we as a community have the opportunity to do better than this. We share many common goals and need to be able to work from these common goals to be able to listen to one another and have discussions. Listening, discussing, learning, and perhaps rethinking our positions. It probably won’t happen about everything, but I bet it can happen for many things. And now that Covid is hopefully more under control, we will be able return to our natural social selves, out and about in town, on the sports fields and in our neighborhoods. [Read More]

House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. (R-North Reading), State Representative Richard M. Haggerty (D-Woburn) and Senator Jason M. Lewis (D-Winchester) recently supported a supplemental spending bill that will provide the Town of Reading with $308,566 in additional state-funded road assistance.
Reading is slated to receive the money as part of a $100 million Winter Recovery Assistance Program (WRAP) initiative included in House Bill 4578, an FY22 supplemental budget that was initially approved by the House on March 9 and by the Senate on March 24. A final version of the bill was enacted in both branches on March 31 and signed into law by Governor Charlie Baker on April 1.
Administered by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the WRAP money can be used for projects such as reconstructing, resurfacing, and striping roads, as well as for repairing or replacing traffic lights, signage, guardrails and storm grates. [Read More]

The Reading Post received the following letter from Town Manager Fidel Maltez
Good afternoon,
I wanted to share a great story for our community. A few weeks ago, our fire department received an anonymous donation at our Central Fire Station. It was an envelope with a scratch ticket and a note saying, “for someone in need.” Our Fire Chief contacted our Town Treasurer, who verified that the scratch ticket was worth $1,000. Unfortunately, to redeem the ticket, an individual needs to provide a social security number for tax reasons.
Our Town Treasurer contacted State Lottery and, after many calls, was able to get a check made payable to the Town of Reading. The Town Treasurer had to make a physical trip to Lawrence to receive the check. Our Town Treasurer and Chief of Fire suggested donating the funds to the Reading Food Pantry, housed in the Old South United Methodist Church.
This morning our Town Manager and Town Treasurer delivered the check to the volunteers at the food pantry. The Reading Food Pantry will use the funds to purchase more goods from the Greater Boston Food Bank. The Reading Food Pantry is incredibly thankful to our staff and the anonymous resident for this incredible donation.
I am personally thankful to our Town Treasurer, Endri Kume, and our Fire Chief, Greg Burns, for their determination in making sure these funds went to help our community.
Fidel A. Maltez
Town Manager

Fundraising Haul Nears What Some Previous Republican Candidates Raised Throughout Entire Campaign Season
|
|
State Senate Candidate Ed Dombroski, an attorney, small business owner, and Wakefield town councilor, today announced his campaign raised more than $30,000 in its first month.
The fundraising haul nearly reaches what some previous 5th Middlesex state Senate candidates raised their entire campaign. Dombroski announced March 1 that he is running for the state Senate seat representing the communities of Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Winchester.
“I’m extremely proud that our message of bringing all voices to Beacon Hill is resonating,” Dombroski said. “On one hand, raising money is the least glamorous part of running for office. On the other, we know how important it is to gather the necessary resources to ensure we can reach voters and share our message of working in partnership, across party lines, to get things done for the people of the 5th Middlesex District and Massachusetts.” [Read More]

Now, commercial and industrial customers can add more renewable energy to their electricity supply
|
|
The Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) is pleased to expand its Renewable Choice Program to commercial and industrial customers, effective April 1, 2022. The program, originally launched to residential customers in February, allows customers to contribute an additional dollar amount to their monthly electric bill toward renewable energy.
Renewable Choice enables commercial and industrial customers to achieve “green” sustainability goals often established in corporate missions and supply chain reporting.
Customers can choose to contribute at one of three levels to bring their monthly electricity usage to 50%, 75%, or 100% renewable/non-carbon. The Renewable Choice charge will be based on the participating customer’s monthly kilowatt-hour (kWh) usage and will be added as a line item on the customer’s monthly electric bill. [Read More]
