Spring 2021
HAPPY EARTH DAY/WEEK/MONTH
Hello Dear Reader,
It's been a minute! The last newsletter was December 2020 and since then we sold our house and downsized into a new home. Settling in and finally hung art in my new office (aka Zoom background). I'll be installing a new kitchen, bathroom and WC so stay tuned for that later in the year.

This new kitchen is loaded with storage. The back end of the house was reconfigured to include a highly functional kitchen, mudroom and WC.

My take-aways from last year's 31 Day Zero Waste Challenge
#TSIDZeroWasteChallenge
Last July I signed up for Earth Hero's Zero Waste Challenge and posted about it on social media. The entire challenge is archived in a Facebook photo album. Click the button for lots of practical tips and strategies for reducing your waste, and for information about environmental justice. Addressing the climate crisis will take more than "greening up" each of our personal lifestyle choices.

  1. Recycling never has been and never will be the answer to the climate crisis. Check out the archive for Zero Waste strategies: Reduce, Refuse, Reuse, Rot and last resort Recycle.
  2. The purpose of Zero Waste Living is to reduce human's destructive impact on the planet. Living mindfully is critical; personal action is empowering and can make a difference.
  3. Individual lifestyle choices are important but alone will not solve the climate crisis, so don't stop there. Political action is necessary to hold our elected officials accountable and promote global change.
  4. The largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions is burning fossil fuels like gas, oil and coal. 2nd largest is the global meat and dairy industry. The US government subsidizes the fossil fuel, meat and dairy industries.
  5. The climate crisis disproportionately affects black and brown communities. Environmental justice broadens the circle of concern to an "inter-generational, multi-racial and international movement that promotes environmental, economic and social justice by recognizing the direct link between economic, environmental and health issues and demanding a safe, clean community and workplace environment for all".
