Hurricane Season is Officially Here

Don’t let this hurricane season catch you off guard. Now’s the time to make a hurricane plan, build or update your emergency kit, and sign up for emergency alerts through Alert Pinellas. Find everything you need to get started at disaster.pinellas.gov. During a hurricane, you can also check the same webpage for the latest updates.

Signing for Sand to Strengthen our Coastline

In May, County officials and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers leaders gathered on North Redington Beach to sign a historic agreement providing new avenues for Pinellas County to access federal beach nourishment funding.

The signing event featured Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) Adam Telle; U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna; Pinellas County Commission Chair Dave Eggers; County Commissioners Brian Scott, Kathleen Peters and Chris Latvala; and several elected city officials. Learn more about the agreement.

Help Our Dogs Find Temporary Homes

We need your help getting our adoption dogs out of our shelter ahead of our upcoming lobby building repairs!

The roof of our Animal Services lobby took some damage during the 2024 hurricane season and needs to be replaced. Construction starts this month. Now, we need to find temporary homes for about 40 dogs for three or four weeks. We will provide a crate, food and medical care for your foster.

You are, of course, welcome to adopt and give one of our pets a forever home as well. If you can help, visit Pinellas.gov/dogs or come to the shelter to find a foster dog that is right for you.

Skip the Fertilizer, Save a Pond

Help keep our waterways clean this summer by educating yourself about our summertime fertilizer restrictions. The County’s fertilizer ordinance prohibits the sale of nitrogen and/or phosphorous during that time frame, with the goal of with the goal of preventing runoff into lakes, ponds, rivers, the bay and the gulf. Nitrogen can cause harmful algae blooms or make them worse. Learn about it here.

How to Have a Safe and Happy 4th of July

Pinellas County Safety and Emergency Services wishes residents and visitors a happy, safe and wildfire-free 4th of July!

We are still experiencing dry conditions throughout the county and encourage residents and visitors to refrain from open burning while celebrating. Please remember, the burning of yard waste and construction debris is always prohibited in Pinellas County per Pinellas County Ordinance Sec. 58-206.

Every year, we see fires that damage property and injure people. We answer 911 calls for residents lighting off fireworks and endangering unwitting bystanders with firework displays gone wrong. We encourage you to find a municipal fireworks show near you and celebrate the holiday safely. Find a fireworks show or event happening near you.

Celebrate Independence Day with Patriotic Family Fun at the All-American 50 at 250 Bash

Step into a festive, red-white-and-blue celebration at Heritage Village’s family-friendly All-American 50 at 250 Bash on Saturday, July 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This festival honors the park's 50th anniversary alongside the nation's 250th with a community reading of the Declaration of Independence, live Americana music, a community time capsule ceremony, and a dedicated kids' craft zone. Attendees can add a message to the Liberty & Legacy Time Capsule, while local food trucks serve classic summer treats from ice cream to hot dogs.

Slice of History: Youth Civic Day Coming to Heritage Village

Young adults are invited to connect the past with the future at Heritage Village's Civic Season Youth 250 event on Saturday, June 27, from 12 to 2 p.m. Tailored for Gen Z, this event features a youth leadership speaker, an interactive photo challenge and a sneak peek at a new exhibit. Attendees will also enjoy complimentary pizza and have a chance to win special prize packs. Admission is free, though pre-registration is highly encouraged to secure your spot.
