Winter Parties
Winter Parties are this Friday, December 20th from 10:45 - 11:45 am.  Thank you to our Room Parents for organizing the fun! Please sign up to help out in your child's classroom and send in items for the party.

As a part of their Winter Parties, each grade is supporting a local charity.
  • Pre-K- Forrest Spence Fund Toy Drive- Students are collecting toys to make sure the children of Memphis (plus their siblings and caregivers) who are hospitalized over Christmas receive gifts.
  • Kindergarten - Each Kindergarten classroom adopted a Kindergarten student from an inner-city Memphis school and provided holiday cheer.
  • 1st Grade - Project Night NightStudents are collecting stuffed animals and blankets for Project Night Night.  Project Night Night organizes care packages for homeless children to provide a concrete and predictable source of security during a time of upheaval.
  • 2nd Grade - Youth VillagesStudents are donating hats and gloves for the children served by Youth Villages.  Youth Villages provides help for children and young people who face a wide range of emotional, mental, and behavioral problems.
  • 3rd Grade - Forrest Spence Foundation - Students are collecting new books for the Forrest Spence Foundation.  The Forrest Spence Foundation supports families that are coping with critically or chronically ill children.  They support them by providing care baskets and supplies while in the hospital.
  • 4th Grade - Orange Mound Outreach MinistriesFourth Grade students are collecting new and gently used books for the Orange Mound Outreach Ministries after school program.
  • 5th Grade - Project Night NightStudents putting together tote bags for Project Night Night.  Project Night Night organizes care packages for homeless children to provide a concrete and predictable source of security during a time of upheaval.
We hope that our Dogwood families will join in our Winter Party Charitable Acts and use this opportunity to promote the importance of giving.  Please see your room parent's Bloomz or email communications for specific information about the donations.
Classic Book Challenge

The library is running a Classic Book Challenge for the month of December.  Any student who reads a classic children's story (think fairy tales, myths, treasured/timeless stories) and takes a passing Accelerated Reader (AR) test, will be entered into a drawing for a Barnes and Noble gift card.  Students must read books on their AR level and if a student reads a novel (chapter book), they will receive two entries. You can use this link for inspiration to help your child find a book to read.

Anonymous Alerts

What is the Anonymous Alerts app?
The Anonymous Alerts anti-bullying and safety app reporting system helps combat bullying and other negative activity in schools by empowering students to speak up. Social and peer pressure are some of the hardest obstacles for students to overcome.

The system allows for 1-way or 2-way anonymous encrypted communications between submitters (students, parents or community members) and district administration and/or school staff. Users of the system have the option to remain anonymous or to reveal their identity when submitting a report.

How does it work?
To use this revolutionary new app, students, parents or other school personnel can simply visit the Germantown Municipal School District website and click on the "Anonymous Alerts" button or text link to submit a report expressing their concern.

Anonymous AlertsĀ® mobile applications can be downloaded directly from the Apple, Google Play or the Chrome stores.
