Announcements
PTO Meeting

The April PTO meeting will be held this Tuesday, April 2nd, at 9:00am in the cafeteria.

DolphinFest was a huge success and raised $42,850!!  Thank you to all of our Dogwood families for supporting this great event that provides funds for our PTO to serve our students, teachers and families.

As was previously publicized, a portion of the proceeds from DolphinFest will be donated to the soon to be formed PTO at Forest Hill Elementary to help kick off their inaugural year.

Approximately 28% of our current Dogwood students will be attending Forest Hill Elementary in the fall, and we want to support them and acknowledge all they have contributed to the Dogwood community.  At the Dogwood PTO meeting on Tuesday, April 2nd at 9:00 am, a motion will be presented to donate $12,000 of the DolphinFest proceeds to the Forest Hill Elementary School PTO.  PTO members present at the meeting will be asked to vote on the proposed gift to help send our friends to their new school with funds to get them started as they build a new branch of our GMSD family tree. Please join us!
Fine Arts Night - Thank You!

Thank you to the MANY volunteers who helped coordinate, decorate, set up the art show and clean up after the event. We could not have done it without our amazing parents and teachers who came out and supported us. Thank you to Mr. Simons who put together such an amazing program that had everyone entertained until the very end! Our art teachers, Mrs. Drury and Mrs. Luyendyk, did such a spectacular job of getting each and every student's artwork completed for this special night! We hope everyone had as much fun as we did! Thank you for supporting our Arts Department!

A special thank you to Rosie Naldoza for coordinating all the sales through MySchoolBucks! If you are still interested in purchasing your child's framed artwork you can still buy your artwork on MySchoolBucks until April 5th. Frames will be sent home with the student approximately 2 weeks later. If you have any questions, please contact Rosie Naldoza: rosalie.naldoza@gmsdk12.org

Reminders from our Administrators

Visits to the School

We have lots of visitors for various reasons everyday, and we love that parents are able to come spend time with their children. Please help us with the safety and security of all staff and students by signing in at the main entrance every time you enter the school building. Parents are not permitted to walk students to their classrooms in the morning. Name badges must be worn while visiting the school.

Carline

Please do not use your cell phone while in the carline. It is against the law! Please move up to the car in front of you so that we can load as many cars at one time as possible. This will help make carline move faster for everyone. Please be patient while waiting in carline. Do not pull out and pass other cars unless you have been directed to do so. Please do not make a u-turn out of the carline.

Cafeteria

Please remind your students that no food is to be eaten in classrooms or on school buses. Students should not take food or drinks out of the cafeteria and they should not open their lunch boxes in the classroom or on the bus. This helps to keep all students safe and classrooms clean.

Thank you for your help! We love our DES family:)
TN Ready Test Proctoring

The Dogwood administration is asking parents to consider serving as test proctors for the upcoming TN Ready Assessment.  If you are interested in serving as a test proctor, please include the grades that you currently have students enrolled at DES.  Gentle reminder that family members may not proctor in the grade levels that family members are enrolled. Dr. Fisher will conduct a training for test proctors at 9:00 am on Tuesday, April 2nd in the cafeteria at the beginning of the PTO meeting.

Testing Dates:

2nd Grade - April 15th - 18th, 9:00 am - 11:00 am
3rd, 4th, 5th Grades - April 15th, April 22nd - 26th, 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Support Our Art Program

Our Art Teachers have an Amazon Wishlist for books that will be used to support art instruction during art classes. Though they are not checked out of the art rooms for students to take home, Ms. Luyendyk and Ms. Drury both have reading areas in their rooms available to early finishers. They also utilize the books as an option on Freedraw Days, which are a reward for great classes and students at the end of the quarter.

Please visit this link and select an item for the art rooms: http://a.co/h0bPn3I
