Walk or Bike to School Day

Join us for Walk/Bike to School Day on Wednesday, October 2, 2019!  Volunteers are needed. Please sign up here if you are able to help.

Walk or Bike to School Day will:
  • Bring awareness to sidewalk and car line safety as our kids travel to school
  • Promote that "active kids are healthier kids"
  • Help the environment by walking instead of driving
To show your support, be a part of Dogwood's first WALKING SCHOOL BUS!

Join Mrs. Price as she leads participating students and parents on a fun walk to the school. For this event, meet by 8:15 AM at the corner of Dogwood Road and Brachton Avenue. We will will be leaving for the school promptly at 8:20 AM. Parents' participation is encouraged but not required. Please be respectful of  neighbors if you park down our neighborhood streets. Other meeting spots will be planned for future events.

Marco's Pizza Spirit Night

Treat yourself to some pizza after you walk/bike to school!  Marco's Pizza will be donating a very generous 10% of all sales to Dogwood Elementary on Wednesday!   Click here for some great coupons to use on Wednesday!


Library Volunteer Orientation

If you are interested in volunteering in the library this school year, we are hosting an orientation/training on Friday, October 4th at 10:45 am in the library.

Haunted Houston

Save the date!   Haunted Houston will be held  OCTOBER 25 AND 26 FROM 6-9 PM at Houston Middle School.

Purchase tickets online before October 24 to receive a $5 discount.   Tickets purchased online can be picked up at the Will Call Table at the door.

*Bouncy Houses, face painting, and fun zone games ($1-3 each)
*Food includes Marco's pizza, Huey's, Commissary, donuts, chips,  Buntinis, candy, and drinks ($1-5 each)
*Tour through the Haunted Hallway of HMS ($5)

Entrance is free.  Tickets will be good for all purchases a t this event and are valid both nights.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Pre-Order

Jeff Kinney's newest book is scheduled to go on sale November 5, 2019. Our Scholastic Book Fair is offering a specially-priced paperback edition of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Wrecking Ball.  To order a copy, complete a pre-sale form and return by October 2, 2019.

Yearbook Cover Contest

The Yearbook Cover Contest has begun! This year's Yearbook theme is "Travel the World". Any Dogwood student can hand-draw a picture for the cover of the yearbook. The deadline is Friday, October 11th, and all submissions should be turned in to Mrs. Mink in Classroom 31 on the green hall.  
 
All submissions should include "Dogwood Elementary 2019-2020". Please submit designs with your name and homeroom teacher written on the back.

Choose to Be NICE

The following students received a Dolphin Dollar and were invited to sign the Choose to Be NICE wall in the cafeteria this week:

Tina Thorn planned an incredibly fun Family Movie Night for our Dogwood community!  Thank you to Tina and everyone who volunteered and helped out to make it such a wonderful night for everyone!

Thank you to  Beth Robertson, Amy Carter, and  Nabiha Huda for their help with planning Family Movie Night!! Thank you to  Malco Forest Hill for donating the popcorn for the event. Thank you to  Yippie Trippie and the Porkstars, TopDawgz, and  MemPops for being on hand to serve dinner. Thank you to  FunTimes Rentals for setting up the screen and monitoring the movie.
