A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

A New Year Brings Advocacy Opportunities

by Julie Coons, President and CEO, Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce

Happy New Year! As we welcome 2024, I'd like to take a moment and share with you the pride I feel about our Region's business community. Northern Virginia is where Greater Washington's businesses unite and grow, and this past year's Chamber achievements fully demonstrated that collective strength.

It is our shared commitment to growth and business opportunity that has been the driving force behind our Chamber successes (as outlined in Deb Gandy's end-of-year message). I am confident that 2024 will bring more significant wins, particularly our business-led advocacy work. With this in mind, I invite you to join your Chamber's leadership in sharing our views with one of the most crucial business influencers in our Region: Virginia's General Assembly.

The Chamber has long established the power an engaged advocacy arm plays in our members' and our Region's success. The source of this power is not a secret: it is found through our full-time advocacy staff, led by our Vice President of Government Relations, Nick Clemente, in addition to our NOVABIZPAC, Policy Committee, and Chamber leadership. We collectively understand that it is through our advocacy work that the Chamber actively drives innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable business growth. As a member, add your voice and participation as we work toward shaping a business landscape that benefits all in our Region.

On January 16th, we will host our annual Advocacy Day and Viva Virginia Legislative Reception in Richmond. We invite you to join us for the day (more information and meetings are listed below) and ride in style in our Reston Limousine-sponsored bus. Nick will remain in residence in Richmond throughout the entirety of the General Assembly. He will weekly host both a Member Advocacy Connector phone call and send out updates via email to help keep our members current.

Please join us on January 16th. I know that by working together, we will make 2024 a year of more shared triumphs and business prosperity!
