Advancing Greater Washington: Chamber CEO Appointed to Virginia's Workforce Development Transformation Stakeholder Advisor Group
Representing Greater Washington’s largest employment market, Julie Coons has been appointed by Virginia Secretary of Labor, Bryan Slater, to the Workforce Development Transformation Stakeholder Advisory Group. The Stakeholder Group has been formed to advise the Administration on workforce issues facing employers within the Region as it embarks on its landmark workforce program and agency consolidation efforts. Said Slater at the Chamber's May 17th Board of Directors meeting, “we all need to work for Team Virginia” as the goal of the legislation is “training Virginians and getting them into jobs.”

Chamber Members' Coalition Calls for a Federal Return to Office to boost Regional Economy
The Chamber is mobilizing a member coalition to call on the federal government to return their workforce back to the office five days a week. While we applaud the Biden Administration’s effort in their April 13th memo, it lacked clear guidance and does not set concrete dates or targets for return to work policies. Currently, most federal employees are only required to work onsite twice each pay period and the memo provides agencies the ability to maintain a remote culture.
The federal government as an empty landlord is impacting our Region’s economic viability. There are approximately 300,000 federal employees who have utilized remote work flexibility to move to states across the country, draining our regional tax base. Furthermore, as we transition out of the COVID emergency, we need our federal leadership to work collaboratively with their personnel at least three days a week to ensure that our government emerges from the pandemic stronger and more efficient.
We are pleased to announce that Chris Clemente, CEO, Comstock Companies, has agreed to co-chair this effort along with Julie Coons, Chamber CEO.
