On March 11, 2025, NVC President & CEO Julie Coons testified before the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Economic Initiatives Committee during a discussion called, "Federal Cuts: Overview of Local Impacts."


For over a century, NVC has been a steadfast advocate for our region’s long-term growth and prosperity, and because of this role as an institutional anchor, was tasked with providing comments to Fairfax County leaders on the current impacts of federal impacts on the local private sector.

Last Friday, we were honored to welcome Victor Hoskins, President and CEO of the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA), as the inaugural guest speaker for our new Executive Members Forum (EMF) — an exclusive, invite-only online space for NVC member executives. Victor shared invaluable insights on economic trends, business resilience, and regional growth strategies, reinforcing NVC’s mission to foster real-time strategic dialogue.


Victor also participated as a panelist in Tuesday’s Economic Initiatives Committee meeting, where he discussed key resources available for impacted federal employees.

Last week, Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) announced a new partnership with NVC and Virginia Career Works. NVCC is leading the way in supporting displaced federal workers and government contractors with a transformative $1 million initiative called NOVAnext. This program supports these recently unemployed workers by helping them reskill, upskill, and re-enter the workforce. Eligible participants can access tuition-free courses in high-demand fields like IT, program management, human resources, and Generative AI, along with expert-led workshops on job search strategies. Learn more.

UVA Community Health, part of UVA Health, has announced an open call for community grant submissions for 2025. The grants, starting from $2,500, are available to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations that serve UVA Health's communities in Culpeper and Northern Virginia. Last year, UVA Community Health awarded $265,000 to local organizations focused on improving access to care. Applications must be submitted by April 10.

The SkillSource Group, Inc. and Virginia Career Works Northern Region have been selected for the Spirit of Virginia Award, receiving a $22,000 donation from a portion of the Governor’s salary. The award ceremony will take place on April 7, 2025, in Loudoun County, alongside SkillsUSA. Nominated by Virginia’s Secretary of Labor and Workforce Board Executive Director, this recognition highlights the organizations' transformative impact on workforce development.

NVC CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

DID YOU KNOW?...

Under Roland Tibbetts' leadership in 1968, NVC backed three major bond referenda: $67 million for building and renovating schools to support 121,000 students, $61.9 million for the Washington Metro system, and $67.2 million for Virginia's college buildings. 


Later, Roland chaired the Northern Virginia Comprehensive Health Planning Council and served as Senior Program Officer at the National Science Foundation, where he created the Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Programs. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) hosts The Tibbetts Award in his honor.
