4 Cybersecurity Must-Haves for the Future of Hybrid Work

“With the rise of remote work and hybrid work arrangements, executive leaders face unprecedented new cybersecurity challenges. Despite our best efforts to move quickly to accommodate the new cybersecurity landscape, we still see many high-profile breaches across sectors, such as the SolarWinds hack and the vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Exchange Server that exposed millions of government records. 

Such breaches have served to demonstrate that existing safeguards are insufficient. Conventional approaches, such as a perimeter-based approach to security, haven’t scaled to meet the need posed by a rush to remote work. And as our organizations are asked to monitor more endpoints across a greater area than ever before, security practices grounded in manual labor have proven unwieldly for our already-thin-stretched IT teams.

What can businesses do to protect themselves in this increasingly unpredictable cyber landscape while ensuring their hybrid workforces are empowered and secure? At our organization as well as among customers, we’ve seen that the answer lies in solutions that bring together formerly siloed considerations of network operations, on the one hand, and security protocols, on the other.

Proposed Gas Tax Holiday Could Lead to $1.8 billion Loss to Virginia's Transportation Funding
Last week, Gov. Youngkin made two major announcements. First, he called the General Assembly back to Richmon on April 4th for a Special Session, primarily to complete their work on the budget. Second, he announced his intention to bring a gas tax holiday bill for the General Assembly to consider during the Special Session.

The Chamber is opposed to the extended gas tax holiday as proposed. Our commitment to improving transportation in Northern Virginia must be backed by local, state and federal investment. Any reduction of the gas tax could have long-term implications on our region’s ability to move people efficiently.

Vaccination Requirement: Upon review of both the CDC guidance on community levels of COVID-19 and its website listings showing our own Northen Virginia counties' positive case percentages, the Chamber has removed its proof of COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Additionally, the Chamber will no longer require masks be worn. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. 
 
As always, if you are sick or feel you are getting sick, we ask that you please stay home.
 
The Chamber will continue to follow COVID-19 guidance from local health departments and the CDC for in person events.

The Greater Washington Apprentice Network (GWAN) brings together employers, academic institutions, public and private sectors. Employers gain access to best practices from organizational peers, sources of prospective apprentice candidates, support services, academic institutions, and training resources. The GWAN meets on the first Tuesday of each month for an Employer Briefing.
