Unique among events, our Veteran-focused Distinguished Service Awards are presented to individuals, companies, and non-profit organizations in recognition of community stewardship and business leadership. This year's Awards, held at the Army Navy Country Club, will be noteworthy as they will be our first in-person Chamber Awards event in well over a year!

We encourage both members and nonmembers to apply for the 2021 Distinguished Service Awards by the August 6th deadline. This reverent and rewarding event never fails to inspire and bring together an already impressive community. Help us showcase those businesses that go the extra mile for our Veterans. The awards will be given out in the following categories:
  • Veteran-Owned Business of the Year,
  • Veteran Service Organization of the Year, and
  • Veteran Employee of the Year.

The Distinguished Service Awards will be held in person on August 31st, 8-9:30AM at the Army Navy Country Club located at 1700 Army Navy Drive Arlington, VA 22202. Register to attend the event here.

Business Advocacy Key to Retaining CNBC’s Top State for Business Ranking
You may have seen last week that Virginia was named the Best State for Business by CNBC for the second year in a row. Behind the headline is crystal clear validation for the Chamber’s advocacy leadership. CNBC credits our “strong workforce and a solid education system” for our top ranking.

The Northern Virginia Chamber has consistently advocated for the wide range of workforce development and education needs in the Commonwealth, everything from early childhood education to tuition assistance for community college to a more streamlined workforce development system. This advocacy helps our elected leaders understand the economic impact of a “solid education system” and they in turn support it through the budget and other meaningful legislation. Beyond advocacy, the Chamber is leading the development of the Greater Washington Apprenticeship Network and the Northern Virginia Workforce Network which seek to create a more cohesive workforce development ecosystem in the Commonwealth.

Your Chamber will continue to proactively pursue pro-business policies that drive growth as the Voice of Business in Northern Virginia.

WORKFORCE UPDATE
Take the Survey: The Northern Virginia Workforce Index
Together the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation in partnership with the Northern Virginia Community College are undertaking a major workforce research project: The Northern Virginia Workforce Index. This survey gathers critical intelligence on the trends defining Northern Virginia’s current and future workforce. The information gathered through this annual survey, combined with conventional and real-time labor market data, will be used to produce a yearly Northern Virginia Workforce Index report, tracking trends and innovations in the regional workforce into the foreseeable future.

As a valued member of our region’s business community, your response is critical to building the intelligence and insight necessary to develop collaborative solutions to our region’s most persistent workforce challenges. Please take a moment to complete this survey.

Blueprint Virginia 2030 Regional Tour - Region 7 Meeting

The Virginia Chamber Foundation is pleased to formally release the dates and open registration for the Blueprint Virginia 2030 Regional Tour.

Those who register will be invited to participate in the Blueprint Virginia 2030 Regional Tour survey. As part of the Blueprint Virginia 2030 development process, the Virginia Chamber Foundation has announced it will host a series of virtual meetings throughout Virginia, in partnership with its network of local, regional, and other chambers of commerce; and GO Virginia and VEDA. These meetings will serve to foster greater regional collaboration by bringing together leaders in business, economic development, workforce, education, housing, and other community representatives from across the Commonwealth to provide input for Virginia’s next statewide strategic plan.

Greater Washington Apprentice Network August Employer Briefing

The Greater Washington Apprentice Network (GWAN) brings together employers, academic institutions, public and private sectors. Employers gain access to best practices from organizational peers, sources of prospective apprentice candidates, support services, academic institutions, and training resources. The GWAN meets on the first Tuesday of each month for an Employer Briefing.

Welcome Back Celebration

We heard you loud and clear, you're ready to attend events again and we are too! Mix, mingle, see your old friends and meet some new ones at this Welcome Back Celebration that you won't want to miss. Please join us on Thursday, August 5th for our first post-pandemic event, a celebration to welcome you back again!

This event will be held in the fun and festive indoor/outdoor space at The Garden located at 5380 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria VA 22304. 

Our guidelines for event attendees:
  • Fully vaccinated individuals will not be required to wear facial coverings. 
  • Unvaccinated and not yet fully vaccinated guests are asked to wear facial coverings at events.
  • Anyone is welcome to wear facial coverings at our events, if that is how they feel most safe. 
  • We will not be asking for proof of vaccinations. We trust that our members and attendees will make responsible choices.

The Arlington Chamber of Commerce is hosting this summit with premier partner, the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and co-hosts, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, Prince William Chamber of Commerce, and Northern Virginia Regional Commission.

Kaiser Permanente is offering COVID-19 vaccination to anyone 12 and older-both members and nonmembers are eligible. The vaccinations are being scheduled at many of the Kaiser Permanente locations across the region. For a full list of appointments and facilities, click here.
