Meet the 2022 GovCon Awards Hall of Fame Honoree, Mike Daniels.

This Wednesday's 20th Annual Government Contractor Awards will see us celebrating excellence within our community. None is more deserving than this year's Hall of Fame Honoree, Mike Daniels, who has made excelling and record breaking in business something of a habit:

"Mike Daniels is a globally recognized business entrepreneur, technology industry leader and investor who has been directly involved in creating over $50 Billion in shareholder returns in high-growth technology companies over 35 years. He is the former Chairman and CEO of Network Solutions, former Chairman and CEO of Mobile365, former Chairman of the Northern Virginia Technology Council, and former Chairman of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

Mike was one of the senior executives who built Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC)  into one of the largest privately held, employee-owned, science and technology services companies in the United States. During his time there, he saw the true opportunity the internet could provide companies and government missions, and, in 1995, found then acquired Network Solutions for $4.7 million. He then raised $3.2 billion in the public markets from three IPO offerings between 1997 and 2000, before selling the company in 2000 for $19.3 Billion. This record still stands on Wall Street as one of the greatest returns on any investment in a 5-year period from purchase to sale and included one of the largest internet offerings of all time.

An active member of our business community, Mike has served on 23 public, private and non-profit Boards of Directors, often as Chairman of the board. He currently serves on the board of directors of CACI International, Blackberry, Mercury Systems and Two Six Technologies.

In 2019, Mike was named by the National Association of Corporate Directors as one of the Top 100 Directors in America and also was inducted into the Greater Washington Business Hall of Fame.

National Apprenticeship Week Reception

November 15th | 3:30-5:30PM | 2020 K Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006

Join us as the Greater Washington Apprentice Network celebrates National Apprenticeship Week with a reception on November 15th. This in-person event will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with current and prospective GWAN employers, non-profits, and education partners, as well as some of our network’s current rising star apprentices.

GWAN brings together employers, academic institutions, public and private sectors. Employers gain access to best practices from organizational peers, sources of prospective apprentice candidates, support services, academic institutions, and training resources. Apprenticeships offer an opportunity to “earn and learn,” meaning that employees receive needed on-the-job training while still earning a living. While some skills are well suited to be developed within an educational environment, others, including soft skills such as team building and leadership, can best be developed within the workplace. Through apprentice programs, Employers can impart key skills and train workers in their own methods and techniques, the cost of which can be recovered through employee loyalty and retention, providing the kind of workplace the 21st century workforce expects: diverse, inclusive, collaborative, and innovative.
