That's a wrap; our takeaways from the 2022 Virginia General Assembly
You have seen the news that the General Assembly adjourned this weekend, leaving only the budget incomplete. Once House and Senate negotiators reach a compromise (or perhaps sooner), Gov. Youngkin will need to call a Special Session to finalize the first budget in his first term. In the meantime, negotiators must continue to make efforts to close a $3 billion gap between the two versions before the end of the fiscal year on June 30. 

The General Assembly did adjourn sine die on Saturday, completing a 60-day session defined by what is new: a new Governor in Glenn Youngkin, a new House Speaker in Todd Gilbert, and a new balance of power with House Republicans taking back the majority. Overall, it was a positive legislative session for Virginia businesses. While there was no marquee piece of legislation that will impact the trajectory of Virginia’s economy, a number of very important bills will give our economic growth some needed tailwinds as we continue to repair the damage done during the pandemic.

Vaccination Requirement: Upon review of both the CDC guidance on community levels of COVID-19 and its website listings showing our own Northen Virginia counties' positive case percentages, the Chamber has removed its proof of COVID-19 vaccination requirements. Additionally, the Chamber will no longer require masks be worn. You are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you comfortable. 
 
As always, if you are sick or feel you are getting sick, we ask that you please stay home.
 
The Chamber will continue to follow COVID-19 guidance from local health departments and the CDC for in person events.

The Greater Washington Apprentice Network April Employer Briefing
April 5th | 2-3PM | Virtual 
The Greater Washington Apprentice Network (GWAN) brings together employers, academic institutions, public and private sectors. Employers gain access to best practices from organizational peers, sources of prospective apprentice candidates, support services, academic institutions, and training resources. The GWAN meets on the first Tuesday of each month for an Employer Briefing.

The Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards is the premier event honoring the leadership, innovation, and commitment to excellence of the people and businesses in the region’s government contracting community. The event honors the leaders and legends of the government contracting community. Presented by the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce and the Professional Services Council (PSC).

The NOVA Business Alliance for Early Childhood Education and Fairfax Futures, a nonprofit that supports children's school readiness, invites business leaders to join a virtual event "Re-imagining Early Childhood Education in a Post-COVID World" on March 23st (8:30-10AM). Inova Health System is calling for applicants for its 2022 Health Equity Grant program. This year, the Health Equity Grants program will award $1 million in funding – the largest level of funding to date for the program – to nonprofit organizations that provide services to address health needs for the under-resourced and promote equity for all. Learn more here.
