As the pandemic’s weeks have settled into months and what was once odd has become our new work and life normal, you can rely on the stability of your Chamber and our ongoing work on your behalf. I’m proud to boast that we have not missed a beat and continue our member advocacy work, including leading the creation of coalitions advocating for a safe return to work, and weekly share valuable and relevant content to our members via online seminars while seeking new ways to engage and connect our business community.
 
We are on the forefront of organizations communicating at the local, state, and federal level to ensure a safe return to work while urging policymakers to continue making investments that will support business, retrain and retool employees, and support what we all recognize will be a period of business recovery. Our  Back to Work Leadership Task Force  meets regularly to address the fast-moving developments in this crisis, ensuring that our elected leaders understand what our members need to speed that recovery.

Northern Virginia Chamber CEO, Julie Coons, has joined the Connected DMV's new COVID-19 Strategic Renewal Task Force. The Task Force includes a rich mixture of commercial, academic, and community leaders and will work closely with Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, their respective administrations, and local governments across the DMV. Scheduled to convene monthly through October, the Task Force will first address near-term priorities, then transition to longer-term opportunities for building a resilient and sustainable economic recovery.  Learn More .

Hogan Lovells has been named to The National Law Journal's 2020 Pro Bono Hot List. "Social justice and equality are integral to our firm’s history," said Pro Bono partner T. Clark Weymouth. He added that during the past 50 years, we’ve devoted more than 2 million pro bono hours to those in need. Read more here .

Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) has named Dorothy (Dee Dee) Helfenstein as the company’s executive vice president and chief strategic growth officer, effective immediately. In this newly created position, Helfenstein will lead SAIC’s corporate strategy and growth initiatives, reporting directly to SAIC CEO  Nazzic Keene . Read more here .

Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) is sponsoring a college career fair virtually on May 28th. We are looking for companies that are hiring recent college grads, providing internships (virtual or in person) or need to fill a pipeline of applicants, we have a few spots left as we lock in the 10 companies and provide logistics starting next week. Virginia Tech presents Tech on Tap: The Ripple Effect: Food in the time of COVID-19 on May 28th.
