Policy Committee Meets This Wednesday on Special Session
The Chamber’s Policy Committee will meet on July 29 th at 12:00pm to develop our legislative priorities for the upcoming Special Session of the Virginia General Assembly. As I wrote here earlier this month, the Special Session begins on August 18 and could run up to two weeks. Issues the legislature will tackle include the state budget, COVID, and justice reforms.
Potential advocacy priorities include education and workforce training funding, workplace safety flexibility, and racial equity. The session will be short, and we will be encouraging the legislature to engage with the business community on the biggest issues during the regular session beginning in January.

The Policy Committee will also pilot the new format for our annual Legislative Agenda. That new format will be more succinct and priority driven, and will serve as a greater written advocacy tool than in the past. Watch this space for that new format soon after the Policy Committee approves the content. If you would like to participate or learn more about the Policy Committee’s work, please contact me at cmedford@novachamber.org
