A Word from our PFA President, Dawn Sue-Dare
My goodness... It's December already, which means the holidays are upon us and it’ll be a new year before we know it! Time really does fly!

I don't know about you, but the recent events in November (Borderline, Woolsey Fire, Hill Fire) have made me that much more appreciative of my family, friends, and our wonderful school community. LV Fire Relief is coordinating with all of the families affected by the fires to create “Need List Registries” to help them rebuild their homes. Stay tuned for more info on that!

A HUGE shout-out and Mahalo to parent volunteers, Alexis Arinsburg & Beth Jagtiani for helping with our Barnes & Noble book fair last week. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work!

Thank you to all the families who came to show support during our restaurant FUN-raiser at Fresh Brothers !

I hope you'll join us at our PFA Meeting next week - December 11th, from 8:30 - 9:30AM in the MPR! The PFA board will be going through proposals prior to the monthly meeting, so please wait in the entry area of the MPR until the start of the regular meeting. We always welcome new ideas, feedback, and volunteers to join our various committees or become chairs for our special events!

Can't wait to see what 2019 will bring! Go Dolphins!

Counselor's Corner with Ms. Carter
H ello Bay Laurel families. This month I wanted to focus on community and connections. Our community has been through a lot the past few weeks.

The connections we have with our family, friends, and community can be crucial in how we navigate an experience, particularly a traumatic one. Many of us remember 9/11 and how this attack and aftermath brought uncertainty and fear. However, it also brought out the best in people and the feeling of being connected, kindness and good deeds. Many of us, if not all, were witness to this after the Borderline tragedy and the wildfires. This community banded together, leaned on one another, and supported each other.

Our Bay Laurel teachers and staff members are always looking for ways to connect to our students and encourage positive relationships. “We are better together” was the theme I began the school year with. And when I visited our classrooms, I could see that the kids and staff were open to and already building connections. These connections were evident upon our recent return to school. Below are a couple of pictures of our students writing on posters about being “Thankful”. It was wonderful to read who and what they were thankful for.

As we celebrate the holidays, reflect on 2018, and set resolutions for the New Year, I wish each and every one of you peace and healing as we move on and rejoice in this holiday season and celebrate on how fortunate we are to be members of such a strong community.

Please, always feel free to connect with me. I am on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am to 3:00pm and Wednesdays from 9:30am to 1:00pm and can be reached by email, hcarter@lvusd.org .

Warmly,
Heather Carter

Monday is the last day to shop Barnes & Noble fundraiser!
There are still a few days left to jump start your holiday shopping with a Bay Laurel fundraiser at Barnes and Noble through this Monday, December 3rd ! All purchases at Barnes and Noble will result in money back to the school. You have to mention Bay Laurel at the time of purchase so we will receive the credit!

Buy one, Give one:    We are all looking for ways to help families rebuild. Please consider purchasing a new book to donate to a local family affected by the fire to rebuild their home libraries. Please drop off new books at the Dolphin at Monday morning drop-off or throughout the day in the office. For more information, please check out these bookmarks . Thank you for your support of our school and community!
Help Families Impacted by the Woolsey Fire!
If you are looking for a way to help families who were impacted by the Woolsey Fire, please go to  www.LVFireRelief.org to help with monetary donations. 100% of all donations received will go directly to the affected families. LVFR was started by parents in our district who teamed up with the YMCA to help make an instant 501(c)3! Therefore, all donations are tax-deductible and families will not be taxed on the contributions they receive. The school district is also in support of LVFR. At this time the donation center is currently in need of luggage and medium or large storage bins with lids. Due to the overwhelming response, they can no longer accept clothing and gift cards. Even if you cannot help financially, you can help by telling all your friends and families from out of the area that www.LVFireRelief.org is the best place to donate.
Shop the Olive Alchemy FUNraiser next week !
Whether you need a gift for family or friends, or perhaps a hostess gift for a holiday party, Olive Alchemy has the perfect gift for any foodie! Shop between Wednesday, 12/12 and Friday, 12/14 , mention Bay Laurel and 15% of your purchase will be donated to the Bay Laurel PFA! Shopping hours are 11am - 7pm, with a Happy Hour from 3-6pm each day. Thank for you supporting our school!
