A Word from our PFA President, Dawn Sue-Dare
Aaannnnd, it's JUNE. Soon we will have a new crop of Bay Laurel Dolphin alumni, and they will move on to middle school!

A special shout out to the following parents who helped coordinate some of the great events during the month of May! Mahalo... to Jody Stiegemeyer, Lisa Friedman, and Marisa Lainer (and their many helpers) for coordinating such a "SWEET" week for the entire Bay Laurel Staff during Staff Appreciation Week; to our amazing Spring Dance Chair, Stacy Wormser, for coordinating our amazing, SOLD OUT all-school dance; to Melanie Stern and our 5th grade parent volunteers for coordinating our 5th Grade PJ Breakfast; and to our PFA Treasurers, Bridget Katz and Jess Burg, for preparing and hosting our 2019-20 PFA Budget meeting!

A HUGE thank you to all the families who supported our Open House FUN-raisers with Dog Haus Canoga Park and Apollo Espresso & Shave Ice !

Congratulations to the Bay Laurel JAXX cast of "Into the Woods" on TWO successful performances this weekend! I've learned so much this performance, and "I Know Things Now"... :)

I hope you'll join us for our Board Installation & Volunteer Thank You Breakfast THIS week- Tuesday, June 4th, from 8:30-10:00AM in the MPR! I want to be able to personally thank all of our hard-working volunteers!

I hope to see you at Fresh Brothers on the last day of school (Wednesday, 6/12)!

Enjoy the rest of your year! Go Dolphins!

Counselor's Corner with Ms. Carter
Hello Bay Laurel Families! I wanted to wish everyone a fantastic Summer with time spent with family and friends!

5th grade transition to Middle School : I know that transitions can be difficult on children. As our 5 th graders transition to Middle School, this can bring up many feelings, thoughts, excitement, and fear. I found a great article on how parents can support their child in helping ease transition worries and help them navigate feelings, multiple classes and teachers, friendship shifts, and embracing more responsibility and independence.

Summer Tips:
-Create a Family Summer Bucket List with your family’s favorite way to spend time together or helping others.
- Create a Boredom Jar (I like when kids get bored and must think of ways to entertain themselves). Create a jar with ideas inside. Don’t forget to include them on the ideas and don’t be afraid to include house/family responsibilities.

Summer Reading: Some of my favorite books for kids include:
How Full is Your Bucket – Tom Rath -there is a kid version and parent version
My Brave Year of Firsts – Jamie Lee Curtis
You Read to Me, I’ll Read to You – Mary Ann Hoberman

Kindful Kids newsletter is quickly becoming one of my favorite monthly newsletters. Here are some books that they recommended for kids, teens, and adults:

Congratulations to our 5 th graders! Bay Laurel will miss you!
Thank you for stopping by Counselor’s Corner and have a wonderful Summer!

Warmly,
Heather Carter

2019-20 SCHOOL SUPPLIES SALE -- ORDER TODAY!
Parents, ALL students must have their school supplies when they begin school again in Fall. To make things easier, we will once again be providing the option to purchase all necessary school supplies, by grade, in a convenient and easy way.

Our 2019-20 School Supplies ordering site is up, via EPI (our school supplies vendor). The deadline to order is Wednesday, June 12th!  Be sure to place your order before then, otherwise we cannot guarantee it will be in the classroom on the first day of school! Make sure to select the grade your student will be entering in the Fall when placing your order. More information can be found on our PFA website  here

Please let any incoming kinder families you know about this pre-sale opportunity as we might not have their email addresses yet! Thank you!

School Code:  BAY081 (3 letters + 3 numbers)

Please note: Families are not obligated to purchase school supplies through EPI, however, you must provide the required school supplies on the first day of school. If you prefer to shop on your own, you can find the required list of supplies by grade on our PFA website  here .

Questions? Please contact our School Supplies Chair, parent volunteer, Carrie Brenner .

BIG CHANGES FOR BOX TOPS - THEY'RE GOING DIGITAL!
Over the summer, you'll begin to see some participating Box Top brands change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label.

Going forward, instead of clipping from packages, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. The Box Tops for Education team is hard at work building a NEW-and-improved, mobile app that will be ready this summer.

We will let you know when it is time to download and start using the new app to earn money for our school. For now, continue to turn your clipped box tops into the office!

Learn more about these changes at: BTFE.COM/SNEAKPEEK
