The 2020 vintage is receiving very favourable reviews for quality but quantity is a big issue.

Both 2020 and 2021 have seen production volumes decline enormously (in some cases to less than 50% and occasionally 100%).

Our allocation of 2020 is considerably smaller than 2019. To offset that we have some exciting new cuvees to offer, including some great new whites.

Jerome says of his 2020 reds “Hard to dream better than the 2020 vintage! The robes are deep red and the nose, of an unusual richness, are marked by intense fruity notes. Endowed with an impressive concentration, a magnificent tannic frame and a very great elegance, they are promised to a future among the greatest.” And of the vintage in general “2020 is an exceptional vintage, with a freshness that is as unexpected as it is remarkable, with unprecedented and unique balances.”

Jerome's Clos Vougeot vines are in the Grand Maupertuis climat over the wall from Grands Echezeaux. This is the best part of the whole Clos. The wines always share some of the unique spice character of Grands Echezeaux.

Bergman's Bourgogne quotes Jerome "Further down the Côte, in the Clos de Vougeot, Jérôme Castagnier owns the southwestern corner. He describes this as the most complex wine of his grand crus. It’s in the Grand Maupertuis section of the Clos de Vougeot. I’m up there together with Anne Gros, Thibault Liger-Belair and Méo-Camuzet. On the other side of the wall you have Grands Echézeaux."

The first tasting notes have started to come through. We have a great review from Jasper Morris MW for Clos de Vougeot 2020. And we have the wine in three formats including an extremely rare Jeroboam (3 produced for the entire world - and only 9 Magnums!).

Hugely intense black and purple. Thick legs of glycerine. This is an absolute blockbuster. Jerome singles out some floral notes though. Very spicy behind, a tingle factor which could have been stems but there are none. Very dark fruit with even some chocolate but otherwise not over the top. Here I find the significant acidity better integrated. 94-96 Points

Our shipment of 2019’s from Albert Bichot will finally arrive at the very start of May.

There are a multitude of amazing wines in both white and red and it would be a shame not to taste as many as possible before they are all gone.

We have assembled a lineup of 12 Premier and Grand Crus - 4 whites and 8 reds. There are some outstanding wines including the new Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru.

We have booked a table for 12 at Scott Pickett's Smith St Bistrot where we will enjoy a superb 4-course dinner accompanying the 12 wines.
