Several wines are very limited
Domaine du Clos Frantin are the proud owners of vineyards in both Echezeaux and Grands Echezeaux. The two vineyards produce exceptional wines that are always amongst the top cuvees at the domaine.

Their Echezeaux holding is four times the size of their Grands Echezeaux plots and the wine is shown for tasting much more frequently. For that reason it has many more reviews. It is a consistent award winner.

Their Grands Echezeaux is more often than not my favourite wine at cellar tastings at the domaine. It combines intensity and complexity with freshness and clarity. It is always stunning wine. Such is its rarity - only 600 bottles in 2020 - that reviews are harder to find.

Today we present a range of Echezeaux and Grands Exchezeaux. Some wines are in stock, other arrive at the start of May (some 2018 and 2019) and the 2020's will be shipped when ready at the domaine.

All wines are offered at a 15% discount except for the 2020's which for a limited time you can purchase at a 25% Pre Arrival Discount.

You may order online or email tracey@grandmillesime.com.au. or phone (03) 9326 5737.

Decanter World Wine Awards 2020
It's always a treat to taste Grand Cru Burgundy, of course, and the challenge for our judges is not to be seduced by the vineyard names alone. There was no danger of that here: this young, dark Echezeaux is hugely impressive on every front, and left everyone who tasted it clamouring for more. Deep, resonant aromas of dark cherry, plum and damson draw you into the glass, while the flavours are round, vivacious and athletic, yet every bit as deep and sonorous as those paying for this appellation have the right to expect. The tannins are quietly expressed and, for the time being, subsumed beneath the wealth of fruit, but that essential support is there. It's astonishingly accessible now, but fruit of this quality will certainly ensure a sound ageing trajectory. 98 Points, Platinum Medal and Best in Show Award

Really pretty perfumed floral aromas entice. Dark raspberries with subtle new oak gives hazelnut and all spice. Palate of dark fruit violets and lavender. Very structured and elegant. Needs time but will be worth the wait. 95 Points and Gold Medal

Michael Apstein - Wine Review Online
Bichot’s Domaine du Clos Frantin owns two and a third acres in the lieu-dit of Champs Traversin from which they make a consistently spectacular Echézeaux. The 2018 is no exception. It is explosive, yet not weighty. It delivers a touch of spice along with a plethora of subtle fruit flavors. Its understated power and suaveness are captivating. It’s my definition of Burgundy—flavor without weight. 96 Points

In the Champs Traversin sector. Very pretty red purple colour, with a lighter fruit after the power of Latricières. Sandy soil could be a worry in the hot dry years, but came through well. Good natural acidity, lively pure red fruit, fresher finish and very good length. Not too ripe at all. 93-96 Points

International Wine Challenge 2020
Black cherry and blackberry are framed by vanilla and toasty oak in this flamboyant red, which is supple and juicy, with a lingering aftertaste of violet and berry notes, as well as chalky tannins. A profile of unrestrained energy. Best from 2025 through 2045. 94 Points

Bill Nanson, The Burgundy Report
Lots of open interest here – the aromas are pure airy and complex – they go deep too – lovely. Wide and intense on the palate. The energy is excellent as is the flavour complexity. Long, mouth-watering tasty wine. An excellent wine.

From the Champ Traversin sector. Rich deep purple. This too has a slight edge of raisins but otherwise it does not feel so overblown. The bulk of the fruit has stayed in balance, the tannins are ripe, fine even and there is just a little acidity to hold it all together. Quite long and detailed. Champ Traversin is a sandy site which drains quickly, but they got there in time. 92-95 Points
Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru

Domaine du Clos Frantin have 0.25 hectares of Grands Echezeaux in two thin parcels. The soil here is very stony. Always a tremendous wine.

Richer denser purple and a more solid fruit concentration. Flesh and fine lifted dark red fruit, excellent energy but also more flesh, some menthol, very good long finish completely in harmony with its structure. 94 Points

Neal Martin, Vinous
The 2017 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru is much more exuberant and precise than the Echézeaux, offering vibrant red cherry, mineral and rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine grip and a precise, iodine-tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. This year, the Grands-Echézeaux is a clear step up from the Echézeaux. 92-94 Points

The 2020 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru has a much more complexity and a more nuanced bouquet, dark berry fruit and briary, crushed stone, clove and a touch of sage. Lovely. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine tannins and perfectly judged acidity. This is a fine Grands -Echézeaux that will age well in bottle. Two barrels produced. 93-95 Points
