NEWS & UPDATES

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM)

DVAM was first observed in 1981 as a "Day of Unity", according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and is now a full month focused on raising awareness of this issue and available resources. The National Network to End Domestic Violence, in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence created the #Every1KnowsSome1 campaign to shed light on the pervasiveness of this issue and the need for a community-wide response to address it.

For the second year in a row, PSG staff members participated in a Domestic Violence Awareness walk in Denver on October 19, which is nationally recognized as Purple Thursday. Thanks to the Rose Andom Center and Violence Free Colorado for coordinating this successful event! Denver Mayor, Mike Johnston, spoke at the event and said this, "With each step at the Domestic Violence Walk, I hope participants feel ‘One Mile Closer to Hope.’ Our community surrounds survivors with understanding and support.” We echo Johnston's message and are here all year long to support survivors.

We finished compiling our annual report from 2022 and are thrilled to share it with you! After the challenges of the past few years, 2022 brought a “return to normal” as the world adjusted to life after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. For PSG, last year was a time of growth and transition. As we navigated the impact of funding cuts, we learned new lessons about resilience and were reminded of the importance of rest and self-care. We are grateful to our staff, volunteers, partners, and the community who help us serve survivors as they navigate the civil legal system. Thank you for being part of our work!

Our office will be closed for Veterans Day and the week of Thanksgiving

Veterans Day will be observed on Friday, November 10th this year, so our offices and the courthouses we work in will be closed for the day. Additionally, we will be closed the entire week of Thanksgiving so that our hardworking staff can take a break. Caring for others takes a toll and we understand that we need to care for ourselves so we can continue doing this important work. From November 20 through November 24, our emails and voicemails will not be monitored, but we will respond to messages as soon as possible after we return on and we will return on Monday, November 27.

Anyone needing immediate assistance while we are closed can reach out to:

SafeHouse Denver (24/7 hotline for survivors of domestic violence): 303-318-9989

The Blue Bench (24/7 hotline for survivors of sexual assault): 303-322-7273

Additional local and national resources can be found on Project Safeguard's website.

Other ways you can support Project Safeguard throughout the year

Many nonprofits rely heavily on year-end giving from individual donors, which is why you get bombarded with emails asking you to give in November and December.

For some people, making a smaller monthly donation is more budget-friendly, and helps provide sustainable funding for nonprofits.

It's easy to make a one-time or recurring donation to Project Safeguard through our Colorado Gives 365 page.

The King Soopers/City Market Community Rewards Program makes fundraising easy by donating to local organizations based on the shopping you do! Here’s how it works:
