Dear Friends,
We are especially happy to welcome spring this year, as well as the hopefulness that grows along with the blossoms. We are also grateful for this community wherein we can continue to heal from the trauma of COVID and the recent violence that has impacted (and continues to impact) many of our communities.
Mental health is front and center for us. We are thrilled that:
-
Our young scholars, staff, and volunteers are able to enjoy the peaceful, healing elements of the natural beauty at the Annapolis Maritime Museum Park during our weekly collaborative, after school program;
-
Through our partnership with Arundel Lodge, our scholars are able to connect regularly with a trained counselor; and
-
Our scholars from 2nd- 12th and beyond are building relationships with trusted adults, including staff and mentors, who provide ongoing guidance and encouragement.
Thank you for your continued support of our mission. We wish you a happy and healthy spring.
With best wishes,
Erin Snell, PhD
(she/her)
Executive Director

We believe in the power of MENTOR relationships! Currently, 26 of our middle school, high school, and college scholars are matched with individual mentors. An additional match is about to be made, and four new mentors are active in our onboarding process. In the first photo above, you can see a group of mentors and mentees who were recently able to attend the MENTOR Maryland Elevate H.E.R. Conference. In the second photo, Linda Mundy, our Mentor Coordinator, received a proclamation issued by City of Annapolis Mayor Buckley announcing January as National Mentoring Month.

Dorothea Abrims, Community Navigation Specialist for the Woodside Gardens community, works with families in her neighborhood. She also ensures children in her neighborhood get on the school bus safely every morning with a positive mindset for the day.
|
|
Through our partnership with the families whose children participate in our longitudinal model and Community Hubs work, and in partnership with People Builders Consulting, Newtowne CDC, and Anne Arundel County Public Schools, over 50 Annapolis families are setting and working towards family goals!
These critical and effective family partnership services are resulting in:
(1) families getting connected with mental health services, (2) scholars receiving professional tutoring services to help them catch up academically after the impact of the pandemic, and (3) students receiving safe and free transportation to basketball practice.
