Shalom West Hartford USY!

We’re Marisa and Max Beede and we’re so excited to be your new West Hartford USY Advisors! We can’t wait to get to know this incredible community of Jewish teens, and as you’ll see from the list below, we’re already planning a packed calendar of events for what we know will be an amazing, fun-filled year!

But first, a little about us – how we ended up as your WHUSY advisors is a little bit of bashert (Yiddish for fate), a little bit of Jewish geography, with a dash of global pandemic thrown in.

We were both very active in our respective USY regions in high school, Max here in Connecticut as a Regional President of HaNefesh, and Marisa in Los Angeles as a Religion/Education Vice President of Far West USY. Our paths zigged and zagged around each other, with many close encounters, but we didn’t meet until we almost seven years ago while living in New York City. We quickly realized how much we had in common, including our shared gratitude for the USY experiences that shaped our Jewish identities, fell in love, found our way to West Hartford at the start of the COVID pandemic, and got married this past August.

In addition to WHUSY, Max is the Community Connections Program Associate at the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford and is on the board of the Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Hartford, and Marisa is the Development and Events Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Connecticut.
