RA Invasive Species Removal Campaign Underway

Reston Association’s Environmental Program will kick off its 2026 contracted non-native, invasive plant removal work beginning this week. Each year, hundreds of staff and volunteer hours are dedicated specifically to monitoring and managing invasive plant species across Reston’s 800 acres of natural areas. This contracted effort complements the work of staff and volunteers by tackling particularly tricky species such as bamboo and dense thickets of invasive vines and shrubs.

RA's Activities Guide is Going Digital

In an effort to provide more timely information and reduce production and postage costs for our members, RA is transitioning its quarterly Activities Guide to a digital publication beginning in 2027. Members will still receive all of the information and schedules on aquatics, camps, tennis/pickleball, nature programs, lake activities and more - but now information will be more timely and available at the touch of a button.

The Activities Guide will always be available on our website, but sign up and we'll send each issue directly to your inbox as soon as it's available.

Still want to receive a paper copy? No worries - we'll still print a limited number of copies of each guide, which will be available for members at our Member Services desk and at special events.

Treats, Trails and More at Walker Nature Center Event

Looking for a family-friendly option to enjoy with your kids this Halloween season? Visit Walker Nature Center's Halloween House and Trick-or-Treat Trail on October 23-24, where guests of all ages can meet a creative cast of characters, including some real animals, and enjoy apple cider, popcorn and games. Children and adults are encouraged to wear non-scary costumes. This is NOT a horror show or a haunted house, but does include sound and light effects.

Recommended for ages 3 years and older. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult at all times. This is a very popular event, and registration is limited, so be sure to secure your family's spot today!

Volunteers are also needed to make the Halloween House & Trick or Treat Trail a success. We're looking for Trail Costumed Characters to dress up and hand out treats along the trail. We'll provide the costumes - you bring the enthusiasm and a desire to have fun at this great event that creates a magical Halloween experience for local families.

To volunteer: Ha Brock, Volunteer Reston Manager, at ha@reston.org or 703-435-7986.
