Is It Time to Refinance Your Mortgage?

Refinancing is the process of paying off an existing loan with the proceeds from a new loan and using the same property as collateral. Usually, the interest rate on the new mortgage will be less than the old, the loan will cost less and you will save money. However, refinancing isn’t appropriate for every homeowner.

To know if refinancing is right for you, understand how these arrangements work.
  • The benefits - Many people choose to refinance because the reduced interest rate decreases their monthly mortgage payment, freeing up cash for other expenses.
  • The costs - To determine if refinancing will work in your favor, you’ve got to weigh the savings in interest against the fees associated with refinancing.
  • The tax effect - One of the primary advantages of homeownership is the savings you receive on your income taxes. Consider consulting your tax professional to determine what is best for you.
  • The best deal - Call, stop-in, or email us for more information!
  • Consumer protection - First Class Community Credit Union will provide a written loan estimate detailing the costs and terms of the financing before you become legally obligated for the loan.

Save more when you start sooner

Whether you’re just beginning your career, planning for your family, or approaching retirement, it’s never too late to start saving with an IRA. But the sooner you start, the greater the effect of compound interest on your savings!

  • You can withdraw Roth IRA contributions at any time, tax and penalty-free.
  • Any earnings are tax-deferred.
  • If you satisfy the qualified distribution requirements, you can withdraw the earnings tax-free.
  • You're never required to take money out of your Roth IRA, no matter your age.
Traditional IRA

  • You may qualify for a tax credit of up to $1,000 when you make a contribution.
  • Any earnings are tax-deferred.
  • If your contributions are tax-deductible, you do not pay taxes on them until you withdraw the money.
  • Any after-tax amounts (nondeductible contributions) can be withdrawn tax and penalty-free.
Contribution limits for 2020/2021 are $6,000 and $7,000 if the owner is age 50 or older. Taxpayers have until Thursday, April 15th, 2021 to make an IRA, ESA, or HSA contribution for 2020. Please visit IRS.gov for up-to-date information on the IRA contribution deadlines.
Debit Card - Did you know?

Did you know that if you report your debit card as lost or stolen and order a replacement debit card you must call one phone number to activate your card and a second phone number to set your PIN? Your PIN will not carry over from the previous lost/stolen debit card for security reasons.
  1. To activate your new card, please call 1-888-691-8661
  2. To set up your 4-digit required PIN, please call 1-888-891-2435
Note: When setting up your PIN you will be asked for your date of birth in a MM/YY format (For example, if you were born in May of 1958, you would enter 0558). Again, your PIN will not carry over from your previous debit card.

Please note that if you reorder the same debit card number due to damage your PIN will carry over to the replacement card. You will still need to call 1-888-691-8661 to activate the replacement card.
