A Letter From The Executive Director
Dear Saint Vincent's Day Home Community,
September ushered in the beauty and energy of fall across our classrooms and playgrounds. Our children have been engaged in autumn-inspired arts and crafts—from colorful leaves and pumpkins to harvest projects that encourage imagination and self-expression. Through your continued support, we are able to provide safe, enriching environments where children can learn, play, and thrive.
The Family Resource Group workshop on Making Screen Time Work for Your Family, facilitated by OTTP-SF occupational therapists, exemplifies our commitment to equipping families with practical tools and guidance to navigate modern challenges while fostering growth and learning at home.
From the excitement of our brand-new gym to the ongoing transformation of our Green Oasis Playground Renovation, September has been a month of discovery, exploration, and community connection. These experiences are made possible by the generosity and dedication of our supporters and community partners. Your contributions not only provide essential resources but also reinforce the sense of care and community that defines Saint Vincent’s Day Home.
As we progress into the fall season, I warmly invite all families to join us for our Morning Meet & Mingle on October 28th. This gathering offers a wonderful opportunity to connect, share experiences, and strengthen the vibrant community we are building together.
With gratitude,
Alexandra Hilario
Executive Director

Children have been busy creating autumn-inspired arts and crafts—colorful leaves, pumpkins, and harvest projects that spark imagination and self-expression. And thanks to your support, we’re able to provide these safe and enriching spaces where children can thrive. | | Library Buzz: Check Out Our Free Family Library
We’re always excited to share the joy of reading with our children! Stories spark imagination, build language, and open doors to new worlds—helping our little learners grow with curiosity and confidence.
Families, children, and teachers are welcome to visit our free book display located in the hallway. This rotating collection features a variety of children’s books that are perfect for storytime at school or at home.
Although themed collections are on pause for now, there are still plenty of wonderful books to choose from—and best of all, you’re welcome to take them home and keep them! Feel free to browse, pick a few favorites, and enjoy the gift of reading together.

| | Fall Fun in the Classroom | | Our little ones have been having a blast with fall-themed arts and crafts! From painting colorful leaves to making their own leaf collages with glue, every activity is full of exploration and creativity. Tiny hands are busy, imaginations are soaring, and each project gives toddlers a chance to learn, play, and celebrate the season. The children love seeing their masterpieces on display, proudly sharing their colorful creations with friends and teachers. | | The Parent Toolkit: Making Screen Time Work for Your Family | | |
Occupational Therapists Shar, Claire, Tara, and OT Intern Han recently facilitated a Family Resource Group on Making Screentime Work for You and Your Family!
The group highlighted that screentime is not a “one size fits all” approach—every family has different needs. It was a rich and collaborative conversation, with caregivers sharing their own experiences and strategies, while the OTs provided information and tools to support families in creating a personalized plan for screentime.
Families received helpful resources, including the 5 C’s and Common Sense Media, to continue exploring on their own.
| | The Dolphins & Starfish classes had a whimsical day at Children’s Fairyland! Our little learners explored storybook-themed attractions, enjoyed hands-on activities, and discovered magical spaces that sparked their imaginations. From riding the carousel to meeting beloved storybook characters, every moment was full of laughter and learning. A big thank you to the parents who joined us—your support makes these magical experiences even more memorable for our children! | | Our Brand-New Gym is Open! | | Our Outdoor Transformation | | Our Green Oasis renovation is in full swing! The yard is becoming a vibrant outdoor space where children can play, explore, and learn. New trees, refreshed landscaping, and updated play areas are taking shape. This project is possible thanks to the generous support from donors, corporate partners, foundations, and CAL FIRE. We can’t wait to welcome our Day Home community into the renewed space. More updates coming soon! | | Smiles All Around: Bread & Roses Visit | | Laughter, amazement, and big smiles filled the Day Home as the children enjoyed a special performance full of fun tricks and joyful moments. We are deeply grateful to our long-standing community partner, Bread & Roses Co., for continuing to bring so much happiness and excitement to our children. | | Celebrating Food Action Month | | This Food Action Month, we are proud to celebrate the generosity and dedication of our community partners who help ensure that families of the Day Home have access to fresh, nutritious food. Thanks to the contributions of Alameda County Community Food Bank, our Family Services Committee disribute food every other week. Just Fare, Acme Bread Co., and Parks Chapel A.M.E. Church, our families receive an array of healthy foods that nourish both body and spirit. Their support not only provides essential resources but also strengthens the sense of community and care that makes Saint Vincent's a welcoming place for all. | | | |
