All NYC restaurants will now get two email alerts before annual inspections from the NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). The first email will be sent about 1 - 5 months in advance and the second email will be sent about 3 - 6 weeks in advance.
Each email alert (coming from noreply@newsletters.nyc.gov) includes information to help businesses prepare for inspection so they can achieve an A grade and avoid fines:
Businesses can also contact SBS’s NYC Business Express Service Team (NYC BEST) for free, one-on-one compliance support at any time, and especially before inspection.
Note that it is important that businesses have the most current email address on file with DOHMH to ensure receipt of these advance notification emails. To change the email address for your business that is on file with DOHMH, complete this form, or update it during your online permit renewal at nyc.gov/dohmhpermits.

The Fresh Food for Seniors program —presented by Council Member Gale Brewer in partnership with Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine— is back for 2025. The program offers a bag of locally grown fresh produce for $10 (a $15+ value) throughout the growing season. It’s pay-as-you-go, not a CSA-like subscription, so it’s a great value with no need for a commitment—just a little advance planning. Sign-up is simple: pay $10 cash about two weeks in advance at Goddard Riverside Older Adult Center (593 Columbus at 88th St). Then come get your produce on pickup day, between 1:00pm and 3:00pm at Goddard (don’t come early!). The next order date is July 23 for August 6. When you pick up your order, you can place your next order for pickup on August 20.
Ordering and pickups are also available at these locations—but with different hours; call them for details!

Report Illegally Opened Fire Hydrants
| | Illegally opened fire hydrants reduce water pressure, make firefighting more difficult, cause discolored water, and waste 1,000 gallons of water per minute. If you observe a running hydrant, please report it immediately by using the NYC 311 mobile app or by calling 311. Quick reporting helps the New York City Department of Environmental Protection respond rapidly and maintain safe, reliable water service. For more information, click here. | |
