The Statewide Charter School Board will meet for its monthly meeting today at the Oklahoma History Center. The meeting also will be livestreamed for those who wish to watch online.
Top agenda items include the status of the Horizon program, which offers free Advanced Placement (AP) courses and deeply discounted rates for supplementary learning courses and services many districts already purchase - but for much higher costs. The program was not funded by the state this fiscal year but is serving a record number 380 school districts with carryover reserves from the Statewide Virtual Charter School Board. During the meeting, staff will explain how districts will not have access to free AP and will pay nearly double for supplementary courses if Horizon is not funded for Fiscal Year 2027 because carryover reserves will be exhausted. State law requires districts to make supplementary courses available to students.
Other agenda items include a status on the Epic Charter School investigation and audit, possible measures for determining applications of merit, and news regarding the date and location of the 2026 annual conference.
