JEANERETTE, La. (August 15, 2017) --
The Jeanerette Museum will present "Moresi: The Man, The Industry" at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20,2017 as a celebration of the sugar cane industry. Attendees are requested to meet at Moresi Foundry located next to the museum for this special event.
Jim Farmer, general manager of Moresi Foundry, will speak about the founder of the factory, Antoine Moresi. Learn more about the foundry, ice plant, bottling plant, power plant and businesses that were inspired by Moresi.
Antoine Moresi was a native of Switzerland who ran a blacksmith shop and machine shop near Jeanerette. He devoted his time to the sugar industry by repairing machinery, erecting sugar mills and operating sugar mill machinery.
He built a brick plant in Jeanerette which later led to the construction of the current Moresi Foundry building in 1890. The business, which manufactures heavy machinery and equipment for sugar mills, has flourished and has been passed down to many Moresi family members.
Following the presentation, Farmer will lead a special tour of the foundry where you can view the manufacturing process. This is a working factory so we recommend you wear casual clothes and closed toe shoes for your safety and enjoyment of the tour.
Parking for the free talk and tour is available at Moresi Foundry and at the museum.
The talk is suitable for an adult audience. Seating may be limited and taken on a first come, first serve basis. A book signing will follow the event.
