What does it mean to be Huntington strong? To Scott Riedel, owner of Riedel-Wilks Building Structures, Inc. it’s all about community. “Where there is need, people step up. Where there is a challenge, people work together to address it,” Riedel says. This enterprising spirit where leaders emerge from all corners of the community to advance community and economic development projects and where ordinary citizens work together to collaboratively solve problems, is part of what sets Huntington apart from other communities. As one of the area’s largest suppliers of pre-engineered steel frame and conventional structures and as a dedicated partner in community and economic development, Riedel-Wilks embodies what it means to be Huntington strong.
The company, now celebrating its 40th anniversary, having been founded in 1978 by Paul Riedel and Bob Wilks, specializes in being a design-build contractor for commercial and light industrial project. The company employs its own architect and design team which means that it offers customers a one-stop experience, rather than having to work with an additional third-party design firm. The company also offers “turnkey” service which is to say that they don’t stop at simply designing and constructing their client’s buildings. They also complete most all phases of construction including site work, concrete, complete office build-outs; plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work. And while the company’s niche is in the commercial and light industrial market, they have also completed both steel frame and conventional construction on projects as diverse as physician’s office buildings, day-care centers and churches. Riedel-Wilks doesn’t just serve Huntington and the surrounding region either. They are happy to serve your project needs wherever they are. The company ships pre-engineered metal buildings to clients all over the country.
This commitment to customer service is all part of the model which has made Riedel-Wilks so successful and has led to the company being named a top-100 Builder in North America by Metal Construction News for 25 years in a row and counting: placing as high as 18th. The company relies on a great customer experience to grow its business. 80-85 % of the company’s business comes from repeat work and referrals. “We work to be sure our clients become some of our best sales people out in the community we serve,” says Riedel. “There is no better compliment that can be paid to us than to have our clients refer us to others. We work hard to earn that level of satisfaction.”
Riedel-Wilks has been one of the outstanding contributors to area development over its 40 years in operation. They have been a contributing partner with the Huntington Area Development Council (HADCO) since the organization’s inception in the early 1990s. Riedel-Wilkes has assisted HADCO with the construction of many industrial facilities over the years, helping to spur the creation of millions of dollars in new investment and thousands of local jobs. It’s this commitment to not only being a great business but also a great community partner that really sets Riedel-Wilks apart.
As Riedel-Wilks embarks on the next 40 years of it’s operations here in the Huntington area, we at HADCO would like to thank the company for its many years of service in advancing economic development in our region. State Electric Supply, Allevard Sogefi, House-Hasson Hardware, Steel of West Virginia, Central Sales; This is just a small sampling of the companies which Riedel-Wilks has worked to build and/or expand here in Huntington. In addition to this, they have constructed multiple shell buildings in coordination with HADCO, including the 100,000 SQ FT HADCO Business Park Building 5. Looking around the community, it’s not hard to find evidence of Riedel-Wilks’ contributions to area development. As the company advances toward its 50th anniversary I am sure there will yet be many more examples of the great work they continue to do for our area.
