Who doesn’t love a spring refresh? You might spruce up your home decor or get the garden in shape. But sometimes those little “projects” we take on—like putting away our sweaters for the season and taking out the tank tops—snowball into a behemoth and suddenly you’re reassessing every item of clothing you’ve purchased since 2009. Piles form. Hangers fly everywhere. It’s out of control.

And let’s admit it: The same thing can happen at work.

When you’re staring forlornly at the website you’ve barely touched since its creation, you’re suddenly motivated to chuck the whole thing out the window and start from scratch. But here’s our marketing tip for those eager spring cleaners: Don’t start over. Just get started.

Here’s a suggestion that we absolutely love to offer clients: Instead of overhauling your entire website, just start with the highest-traffic pages. It’s a small, tidy project that is not only approachable and manageable—it also offers the potential for outsize impact.

First, identify your three highest-traffic pages using Google Analytics. (Hint: Your homepage is almost always going to be No. 1.)

Then, look at the stuff that stands out, like your navigation, headline, and CTA buttons. Should any of those be spruced up?

You can also give yourself a deadline to focus on each page, just to make sure you don’t get stuck in the mud and lose your momentum. When time’s up, just pull back and enjoy the progress you’ve made.

When you’ve taken this approach with your Top 3 high-performing pages, you can begin to see how traffic, time on page, or conversions improve since pre-rework. The fast reward of improved metrics can give you the motivation to take on the next section of your website, and the next.

But maybe it’s not your website; maybe you have another spring cleanup or campaign in mind. Mad 4 Marketing can help you identify the three key areas to start with and set you up for success.
