O’Halleran visits with
OV leaders, business
people to take stock
|
U.S. Rep. Tom O’Halleran spent hours in Oro Valley on Monday, meeting with Mayor Joe Winfield, members of the Oro Valley Town Council and staff, and visiting with local business owners and managers to check in, and to hear their impressions of the town’s business assistance program, OVsafesteps.
In the socially distanced Sunset Room at the Oro Valley Community Center, O’Halleran interacted with Mayor Winfield, Vice Mayor Melanie Barrett, Council members Dr. Harry “Mo” Greene II and Tim Bohen, Chief Kara Riley, director of community and economic development Paul Melcher, Assistant Town Manager Chris Cornelison and economic development specialist Margie Adler, among others.
“Businesses have had incredible challenges,” the mayor told O’Halleran. “I applaud Pima County for the work they’ve done” with tracing, testing, and vaccinating. “And I can’t say enough about the residents” and their “adherence to protocols.”
In addition, O’Halleran heard directly from business people, to include Helen Thoenes of GritFit Tucson, Susan Swan of Swan Pilates, Kevin Wichers of MyGym Tucson, Jenny Ritchie of Trouvaille Salon, Crystal Quimby of Savaya Coffee and Jill Caffrey, Ph.D., of Southern Arizona Neuropsychology Associates.
Over the course of 1 hour, each shared heartfelt stories about how their business is doing, their experience with federal assistance, and the help they received from the Town of Oro Valley and your Chamber.
Then, face-to-face in their businesses, O’Halleran met with Reza Shapouri of Harvest, Katrina Wyckoff of Centre Stage Pole Fitness, Suzanne Kaiser of Noble Hops and Otton Suarez of Chamber Gold member El Conquistador Tucson, A Hilton Resort.
Most see a light at the end of the COVID tunnel. Several are struggling to find employees, particularly in the restaurant sector. O’Halleran and staff listened, wrote notes and took pictures, and prepared to follow up.
“We have to find a way to come together at a much higher level than what we are now,” O’Halleran said. “We need to find a way to move forward. We need to find a way to unify America.”

Latest Roche advance
allows researchers to
ID, profile biomarkers
in cancer research
|
Chamber Diamond member Roche has launched the DISCOVERY Green HRP kit, the newest addition to its comprehensive collection of modular-based detection kits to identify and profile biomarkers and cell populations in tissue-based research.
Advances in the understanding of cancer biology can help pave the way for improved cancer testing for patients. Researchers can now investigate more cancer biomarkers on a single tissue slide, paving the way for a better understanding of cancer biology and future advances in personalized healthcare.
The DISCOVERY Green HRP (horseradish peroxidase) kit can be used in combination with other detection kits, expanding the multiplexing capability of both immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridisation by providing a distinct color that contrasts with other chromogens.
“As IHC multiplexing technology expands to more markers, researchers need chromogens that can provide greater contrast for image analysis,” said Jill German, head of Roche Pathology Customer Segment. "DISCOVERY Green HRP was designed and developed with researchers in mind and will enable them to see multiple biomarkers instantly, with the ultimate goal of advancing patient care globally."
Roche’s DISCOVERY Green HRP kit is supplied in ready-to-use dispensers and provides a stable staining signal during alcohol dehydration. It can be fully automated on the DISCOVERY ULTRA system.
Roche is a global pioneer in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics focused on advancing science to improve people’s lives.
