WARM HEARTS, WARM PLATES

The West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation & Community Services Department is hosting the first-ever Warm Hearts, Full Plates community event on November 18th at the Recreation Center, located at 2450 S. 68th Street. The event aims to provide resources for families in the district who cannot afford a winter coat or a Thanksgiving dinner. With the help of community sponsors, Rupena's Fine Foods & KhalsaAid USA, the department hopes to raise $3,000 to purchase turkeys for 30 families. Families will be referred to the program by their school, and the event is invite-only.

For questions, more information about this event, or to donate, contact Program Manager Bobby Foreman at 414-604-4968 or foremanr@wawmsd.org.

NEXTREX RECYCLING CHALLENGE

Our awesome friends at the WAWM RCS Recreational Adult Day Program - RAD have entered the NexTrex Recycling Challenge, and they need YOUR help!

NexTrex is a grassroots movement that aims at establishing recycling outlets for consumer collection beyond traditional grocery store drop-off by removing hurdles that prevent the organic growth of local plastic bag/film recycling initiatives. Our RAD team is determined to collect at least 1,000 lbs. of plastic film in 12 months. And if they succeed, they'll earn a beautiful bench to be placed in our garden right here at the Recreation Center. How cool is that?!

So, what can you do to help? It's simple! Start gathering your plastic bags, bubble wrap, dry cleaning bags, newspaper bags, and any other plastic film you can find. Please make sure that it's clean, dry, and free of food residue to be accepted. Together, we can make a huge impact on our environment and create a more sustainable future. For more information on what can be recycled, please visit https://nextrex.com/view/educate

We're excited to be part of this effort and hope you'll join us in making a positive impact on our environment. Thanks for your support!

YOUTH THEATER:

INTO THE WOODS

“Be careful what you wish for” seems to be the ongoing theme in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Brothers Grimm inspired musical, Into the Woods. The story follows The Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to go to the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give some milk. When the Baker and his wife are visited by the neighborhood witch, who reveals to them that she placed a curse on their family, the two set off on a journey into the woods to reverse the curse. The community must come together to save each other and their kingdom, but sacrifices must be made.
