Join Us for Saturday's Art Reception!

Light, shadow, and color are the language of the seven artists whose exhibit, Plein Air Voices of the Natural Landscape, is on view through December 21. Celebrating the natural beauty of the Eastern Shore with joy and playfulness, they capture moments of changing light throughout the seasons. The artists for this show, Richard Fritz, Diane DuBois Mullaly, Kate Quinn, Jose Ramirez, Jim Rehak, Maggii Sarfaty, and Sheryl Southwick, are all inspired by a deep love of nature and art and have won awards for their work in plein air competitions or exhibits.

There are few art forms as fresh and energetic as plein air painting. Deriving its name from the French for "in the open air," it's a particularly challenging art form that requires the artist to work outdoors, painting quickly to catch the light and atmosphere of a scene before it changes and is lost.

The artists in this show were chosen both for their skill in plein air painting and the variety of their mediums and approaches. Please join us on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. for a free reception to meet them and learn about their work.

Patterns in Nature

Friday, November 22, 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician who discovered a mathematical pattern found in nature. Understanding and employing this pattern in botanical drawing provides the basis for successful drawing. This class, taught by Lee D’Zmura, will study the pattern and its existence in many natural subjects. Exercises will explore a number of applications as well as a finished drawing. Click here to register.

Illustrated Phenology Wheel

Friday, December 6, 2024, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.
