Peter is the longest serving employee of Habitat Central Lane, with 15 years served in the ReStore. He was the first ever paid warehouse employee and you can always find him with his trusty lumber cart, pricing and maintaining the large expanse of building materials in the ReStore.
We asked him a few questions over coffee and donuts to help you get to know him better:

Why did you apply for this job?
- “I really wanted a job to help people, as the last job I had that helped in amazing ways was tree planting in the 1970s.”
Fifteen years is a long time, why have you stayed?
- “The goal of Habitat’s mission is to help others, and that’s what I want to do. When I first started, I delivered lumber and building supplies to a Habitat project. In 2018, I semi-retired; the staff, volunteers, customers and the people we serve is what keeps me going.”
What does home mean to you?
- “If I hadn’t received an inheritance, I would not have a home. I assumed a Veteran’s loan, I paid off their equity and assumed payments. I’ve lived in the home for over thirty years; it’s a single-story ranch style house perfect for aging in place. Besides the home I live in, I find the ReStore is my home.”
If you were going to be any tool, what tool would you be?
- “I would be a multitool because I like to be a multidimensional useful guy,” he says with a laugh.
Come back for more next month. Together we build homes, communities, and hope!
