Costa recognizes
15 athletes on
National Signing Day!
One of the most exciting moments for a student-athlete is National Signing Day. Years of hard work have led to this moment, and on April 11 th, 15 Costa athletes were honored as they look forward to playing at a collegiate level. They will be playing a variety of sports: volleyball, basketball, lacrosse, cross country, track and field, softball, swimming & diving, golf, wrestling, water polo, fencing, and soccer.
Congratulations to our Costa student athletes who signed their NCAA letters of intent. These universities are very lucky to get our Mustangs next year!

Costa Students Celebrate at COSTACHELLA!
On April 11th, Costa students enjoyed their own homegrown music festival! Sponsored by MBX Foundation and Subaru Pacific, the event featured two student bands, Good Vibes and Business Casual along with DJ entertainment by Cole Ficklin. The event was organized and executed by students from MCHS Link Crew, Mira Costa Mustang Club, and MCHS ASB with support from the Mira Costa Social and Emotional Wellness Committee (SEW). Read More
Mira Costa Varsity Baseball Team
wins Righetti Tournament!
Mira Costa Varsity Baseball Team won the Righetti Tournament and is currently ranked third by the LA Times.
The team also moved up to 9 th  in the Country by Baseball America.

Arcadia Invitational Win for Costa Track and Field!
The Arcadia Invitational is a huge high school track and field meet, and it is considered to be one of the most competitive events in the United States. It has been billed as the “Home of National Records” and is one of the most difficult meets to qualify for. It attracts the best athletes from over 900 schools around the country. Read More

Indoor Drumline takes First Place at Whittier Competition!
Congratulations to the Costa Indoor Drumline Team who took 1st place in the Scholastic Open division of the Whittier Competition. The Indoor Drumline Team performed their show, "Rite of the Mountain Spirit". They followed this up with a 2nd Place win at the ADLA Semi Finals at King High School on April 15th in the Scholastic Open division. They will go on to compete at the ADLA Championships in Azusa on April 28th.
Softball off to a great start in Bay League with 2-0 record!
Softball is off to a great start in Bay League play with 2 consecutive wins. The Mustangs won their Bay League opener at home 7-6 over the Peninsula Panthers on Wednesday 3/28 with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th by senior 2B Katie Gould. The team racked up 11 hits in the game including doubles by senior Grace Herron, and sophomores Mari Ledezma and Angel Santellan.
Mira Costa Tennis continues winning season!
The Mira Costa tennis team is having a great season so far!
Varsity is 15-1 and ranked 4th in D1 CIF and JV is 10-0.
Senior recognition day will be on Thursday, April 19 th , at the last home match against Redondo.

Costa Swim Team falls to Peninsula, but sweeps West Torrance!
The Mustangs competed in their first league meet of the season against Peninsula, just before Spring Break, and came up short against Pen’s depth. Varsity girls nearly prevailed, losing by only 2 points, with strong swims by Alex Crisera, who won the 100 free and 100 back, Riley Farrell who won the 100 fly, and Leigh Lyter who won the 50 free. Costa Surf team spends Spring Break in Nicaragua
The Mira Costa Surf Team spent Spring Break surfing in Nicaragua. While there, the team visited a local school and spent the day with the kids reading to them and providing shirts and hats and sporting equipment. The team had an opportunity to interact with the local kids each night and practice their Spanish. It was a great team bonding week and good waves were had by all.
Choir April news and upcoming events
On April 11th, the Advanced Women’s Chorale participated in a Southern California Vocal Association (SCVA) Festival. Seven women’s choirs and men’s choir participated in this festival, with each singing three selections. There were two adjudicators who judge and score the performance. The Advanced Women’s Chorale was the seventh choir to perform, singing “Dies Irae” by Z Randall Stroope, “Wer die Musik sich erkiest” by Ron Jeffers and “Alleluia” by Paul Basler. A perfect score is 90 and the chorale received a 90 from judge #1 and an 89 from judge #2. We are so proud of the Advanced Women’s Chorale and their brilliant performance. Read More
Boys Volleyball has success in Hawaii!
Mira Costa boys volleyball headed to Hawaii over Spring Break for the Clash of the Titans series. Volleyball powerhouse Punahou High School invites three other volleyball programs to come together and take them, and each other, on. Costa defeated Sage Creek and Kamehameha on Wednesday and Thursday. Costa then faced Punahou on Friday. Punahou is considered by many to be the top team in the country this year. Read More

Philharmonic Orchestra excels at Music In the Parks Disneyland Festival!
Congratulations to the Philharmonic Orchestra for their highly successful performance at the Music In the Parks Disneyland Festival on April 14th. The Philharmonic earned a rating of unanimous superior, and placed first in the High School String Orchestra AA Division.
Costa Ruggers Competitive vs. Toowoomba of Australia
The Mira Costa Rugby team, back from spring break, showed some big im­provement as they were extremely competitive vs. a very good Toowoomba Gram­mar School from Queensland, Australia. Playing in their 10th match in 2 weeks, the Aussies found the boys from Costa to be a very physical lot.
Mira Costa Boys Basketball welcomes new Varsity Coach
Mira Costa Boys Basketball welcomes Coach Neal Perlmutter who comes to Costa from West Torrance High School. While at West, he turned a losing program around and led the Warrior team to a CIF title two years ago. He and his talented staff are already hard at work and planning for a successful Mustang Basketball future!

The Costa Basketball Banquet was held March 22 at the El Segundo Automotive museum. Congratulations to Tommy Waller and Morgan Clark who were selected to play in the South Bay All Star game.
Manhattan Beach Odyssey of the Mind Teams take 1st Place at
State Championship, Qualify for World Finals!
Teams from MBMS and Pennekamp took first place in the "Structures" category in their respective divisions at the recent Odyssey of the Mind California state championship. The students worked extremely hard this year writing original scripts for their performance; creating their own props, scenery, and costumes; and researching, designing, and building balsa wood structures. Another team from Pacific also took 1st place in the "Performance" category. All 3 teams now qualify to represent Manhattan Beach and California in the World Finals at Iowa State University in May .

MBX Summer School Registration and MBX Flex Registration is OPEN
Registration for academic courses and summer athletic programs are now open for all grades. Register for the grade your student will be entering in the fall.

2018 MBX Summer School dates are:
Session 1: Monday, June 18 – Friday, July 6
Session 2: Monday, July 9 – Thursday, July 26

Classes will run Monday to Thursday, except for the week of July 4th when classes will be held Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Academic courses meet from 8 am to 1:30 pm.
