BOARD MEMBER SPOTLIGHT- HOLLY WEST, BOARD CHAIR
Believe it or not, I went to school to be a police officer because I wanted to change the world (young and bright-eyed). In one of my policing classes, an officer came in and told us we wouldn't be changing the world; we would be arresting the same people over and over again. That was not what I had in mind or what I wanted to do with my career, so I decided to focus on banking. At the time, I was going to college and working part-time as a teller at WAMU, so I decided to focus on banking. I worked my way up in banking to branch manager in a pretty short amount of time and realized there are other ways that I can help people. So in my career now, I help consumers and small business owners reach their financial goals. I also am very passionate about volunteerism and public service. Valley Cities' work is very close to my heart. I come from a family that deals with mental health and substance abuse issues and dealing with some of my own after having my youngest daughter. I have lost close friends by suicide and drug addiction. I am proud to serve as the Board Chair at Valley Cities and help share their message community-wide.

Valley Cities partners with ABATE Biker Group for Easter Event
The ABATE (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments) Biker Group was active in the community this weekend as they cruised to different Bunny Hop Run locations. Our Enumclaw Clinic was selected for Easter basket donations to our clients and community during this charity event. Furthermore, the ABATE crew successfully dropped off baskets to six other community partners, all while entertaining guests and handing out prizes to those involved. Thank you, the ABATE team, for making this a fun and memorable event.

CLIENT SUCCESS @ VALLEY CITIES
Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Program
I still remember when April walked in the Valley Cities clinic in Enumclaw, asking for help. She was determined from the beginning stating, "I want to be sober again and I know I can do it with some help" and she immediately engaged in services; SUD, mental health and soon after couples counseling. She was attending SUD groups in person and just a few short weeks later, COVID hit and we suddenly were switching to Telehealth services. April stated "NO, it's too soon in my recovery and I need in person groups". However, we all adjusted together to sudden and new change and for the first time ever, facilitating SUD group sessions via Telehealth. She stayed with it, continuing to work on her relapse prevention plan and sobriety, remotely. She also worked hard to improve her mental health, addressing unresolved underlying issues that would lead to relapse and worked with a family therapist to further develop healthy relationships. It has been amazing for me to witness all the changes April has made the past year and she continues to accomplish her goals and is learning to live a healthy, happy life, sober!

-Stacy Perez, SUDP (Sharing April's success story)
"I have done 1 year of treatment at Valley Cities. I have accomplished so much in that 1 year. I have learned that I can change, I can be a good parent and wife, I'm finishing high school, and I now have a job and saving money. My recovery has been an up and down, but I have learned so much from it. I have learned I can trust and I can have a great relationship with others, I have learned many coping skills on my own behavioral issues and my addiction issues. Not only these, but I have also learned that I'm not alone. The groups have been a big part in trust, acceptance and teamwork. I would have to say without this wonderful treatment and counseling clinic, I'm not sure where I would be right now. Thank you to all that stood next to me on this journey."
