5 Common Winter Hazards

The frigid winter can be tough for those of us in the New Jersey area. Common hazards should be addressed to ensure you and senior loved ones can be safe and enjoy the winter season as much as possible, especially for those experiencing issues with limited mobility.

Fire Safety Tips for Seniors

Older adults are at greater risk of suffering serious or fatal injuries from a house fire. In fact, seniors represent 40% of all fire-related deaths in the U.S. It’s critical for seniors and their families to know how to prevent potential fires and what to do if a fire erupts.

New Jersey's Covid-19 Information Hub
The State of New Jersey recently introduced a COVID-19 Information Hub where people can pre-register for the Covid-19 vaccine. New Jersey will roll out COVID-19 vaccines in a phased approach to all adults who live, work, or are being educated in the State. The state's goal is to vaccinate 70% of the adult population within 6 months. To learn more, visit covid19.nj.gov.

A 5-Star Review:
"I'm very grateful for all that Visiting Angels has done for Mom and me. Visiting Angels is a caring, responsive, professional organization. Their caregivers are excellent. As we all know, everything doesn't always go smoothly. Visiting Angels has always been there for me to get back on track quickly. I appreciate the entire staff—the caregivers, the office, the clinical staff and ownership—I've interacted with all of them. I recommend Visiting Angels!"

Celebrating Our Hardworking Employees

We are so proud of our wonderful, hard-working employees who go beyond the call of duty. Below is why our Angels are so special...

Fritza C: Fritza has been with Visiting Angels since 2017. Fritza is a reliable caregiver with a friendly, helpful attitude. Clients have praised her can-do attitude and her ability to jump in to do what needs to be done regarding the care of our clients. On the administrative side, we appreciate Fritza’s willingness to do last-minute fill in assignments, to follow Covid-19 protocols, to wear her uniform and badge, and to show continual improvement in turning in her weekly duty sheets.

Patience A: Patience is one of our live-in aides who has worked with us since 2017. As her name implies, she is very patient in the care of our clients. She has a warm, agreeable demeanor which generates goodwill. Patience is responsive to office communication and is diligent in completing any documentation the office needs, such as personnel documents, timesheets, and duty sheets. She isn’t afraid to ask questions to make sure everyone is on the same page.

SPEED LIMIT

One night a state police officer saw a car going only 22 miles per hour, so he pulled the car over. When he approached the driver's side, he noticed five older ladies were seated in the car and all them looked to be in shock. They were all very pale.

Mildred, the older driver, greeted him. "Officer, why did you pull me over? I was going the speed limit exactly. What is the issue?"

The officer replied, "Ma'am you weren't going OVER the speed limit but driving UNDER the limit is just as dangerous."

Mildred replied, "But I was going 22 mph, the exact speed limit."

"No, ma'am, 22 is not the speed limit, it's the route number," he laughed.

Feeling embarrassed, the older woman thanked him.

The officer then said, "Before I let you go, is everyone OK? The other ladies seem a bit unsettled."

"Oh, they'll be fine in a minute," Mildred replied. "We were just on Route 119."
