Updated Unconventional Vehicle Process Review Policy and Procedure

Following the July 8 County Touchpoint meeting, the Unconventional Vehicle Process Review Policy & Procedure has been updated. Like the updated Odometer Discrepancy Policy, the Unconventional Vehicle Review Policy now has a checklist on the last page that can be given to owners so they know what to provide. Please only give the checklist to the owner, not the entire policy.

Updated POST VIN Inspector List

The Colorado State Patrol has provided us with an updated VIN Inspector List. Please refer to the recently published VIN Inspector List for the most updated information.

Survey on County Locator Processes

In order to help create a standardized process for vendors or the EVTR Unit to use in requesting new locator addresses or corrections, the EVTR Unit has created a survey to gather feedback from the counties about their processes for adding or correcting locator address requests. Please complete the survey here. Responses will be gathered until July 31.

Fraud Watch

Missing Virginia Antique License Plates

The Motor Vehicle Investigations Unit (MVIU) recently received information from the Virginia DMV that they are missing a box of fifty antique license plates. The antique license plate range will be between 5851AF-5900AF, and will look like the following photo:

Sample of Virginia antique plate

These license plates were discovered missing on June 25. Virginia antique license plates are affixed to vehicles over 25 years old, but the vehicle cannot be used for everyday driving purposes.

If you encounter anyone using these plates or have information about them, please contact Sergeant Andrew Hicks with the Virginia DMV at 434-221-6998 (Case #250601905). Contact MVIU for guidance or to answer any additional questions about these license plates.

New Wave of Scam Texts Impersonating Colorado DMV

The Colorado DMV has identified a new surge of scam texts that are impersonating the department. It is crucial to reiterate to the public that these messages are NOT from the Colorado DMV, even if they use the DMV logo. The DMV does not initiate contact via unsolicited text messages or emails to demand payment for tickets, or to threaten prosecution or suspension of privileges in this manner.

Please advise any concerned individuals that they should follow the guidelines below:

  • Do NOT click on any links.
  • Do NOT share any personal or financial information.
  • Do NOT reply to the message.

If individuals are concerned about the status of their driver's license, vehicle registration, or any potential tickets, they should contact the Colorado DMV directly through the DMV’s official website or by phone at (303) 205-5600. They should not use any contact information provided in a suspicious text and/or email.

We appreciate your continued vigilance and assistance on this matter.
