Dallas Neighborhood Reaches New Heights
International real estate firm Hines and Archer Western Construction have broken ground on The Victor, a luxury residential high-rise community located in Dallas' Victory Park neighborhood. The Victor will be a 39-story high-rise tower and will stand taller than any other residential community in Victory Park. The building will be comprised of 344 luxury residences including 18 penthouse residences on levels 37 through 39. It will be home to Dallas’ only 36th level sky amenity deck capturing panoramic views of the skyline with a private resident dining room and catering kitchen.  ALPHA will be performing all of the below grade fluid applied and sheet membrane waterproofing, fluid applied air barriers and flashings, pedestrian and vehicular traffic coatings, hot fluid applied waterproofing, concrete floor sealer, building and site sealants along with the sprayed insulation on this project.  The Victor is expected to open in the second quarter of 2021.
Alpha Puts It's Signature on Tampa
The JW Marriott Tampa Water Street represents the first of 10 large construction projects to break ground in the new waterfront community over the next year, all being run by Coastal Construction Group from Miami. One of the largest developments in the nation, Water Street Tampa will include more than 9 million square feet of commercial, residential, hospitality, educational, entertainment, and retail space when completely finished.  ALPHA was able to make a huge splash on the front end of these developments, capturing the first waterproofing package of the development. This (almost) all inclusive waterproofing package encompassing hot applied, cold applied, air barrier, all joint sealants, traffic coating, and cementitious waterproofing. Being awarded the first above grade waterproofing contract has given ALPHA the opportunity to showcase our high quality waterproofing skills, putting us in a great position to win additional projects in the Water Street development.
Alpha Lands Will Rogers Airport Expansion
Construction has started on the new Will Rogers Airport Expansion in Oklahoma City, OK. The $61.9 million dollar expansion will add a new concourse, four new gates, an observation deck and a lobby for friends to meet arriving passengers. The new expansion will also consolidate the two existing security checkpoints into one new checkpoint with a high ceiling space designed to accommodate technological advances in security systems.  ALPHA will be performing all below grade waterproofing, water repellents, fluid applied air barriers, building and site sealants, expansion joints, sprayed fireproofing and sprayed acoustical insulation along with a turn-key firestop application including all penetration firestopping, joint firestopping and cable pathway applications for Timberlake Construction. The project is expected to take two years to complete and should be open in early 2021.
Alpha Keeps Reeling Them In!
Already one of the largest Aquariums in the world, The Georgia Aquarium keeps growing. Brasfield & Gorrie has chosen ALPHA to perform waterproofing, expansion joints, sealants, and air barriers on the Georgia Aquarium 2020 expansion. This $100 million, 104,100 sq ft, 1 million gallon expansion will house a new predator exhibit with a focus on sharks, one of the most interesting and misunderstood species in our oceans. An extension of the Aquarium’s conservation and education efforts, the new experience will help guests have a deeper appreciation for the important role sharks serve in the oceans and inspire them to join conservation efforts to protect our oceans. The saltwater gallery will feature stunning floor to ceiling acrylic windows to give guests an up-close and personal view of these majestic animals. Potential shark species under consideration include hammerheads, sand tiger sharks, and sandbar sharks.
Nashville Embraces Residential Growth
ALPHA will be working with James McHugh Construction to assist in the construction of the $79 million Kenect Nashville being developed by Chicago based Ankara Partners. Kenect located near Historic Music Row in Nashville, TN will rise 20 stories, include 420 residential units and have an elevated amenity deck for residents to enjoy the ever-changing Nashville sky-line.  ALPHA will perform below grade waterproofing, deck coatings, hot applied waterproofing, air and vapor barrier, firestop, geofoam insulation as well as joint sealants. Kenect is the third project with James McHugh Construction. We are currently working on the Holiday Jones Hotel and completed Sobro Apartments in 2017.
CORRECTION: In the January edition story "The Future of Engineering Excellence" the General Contractor is Whiting-Turner Contracting Company and their stated project value is $52 million.
Associated Builders and Contractors of Georgia hosted a Meet & Greet. This served as an opportunity to network and reconnect with contacts after the busy holiday season. There were 30 registered general contractors and 500 registered participants at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. As usual, the Alpha team closed down the night!
