Migrant Education held its annual Speech Contest on Saturday, February 28, from 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m. One hundred students from 6th–12th grade from throughout North County participated in the statewide contest to make it to the state finals in May.
Local leaders served as judges.

With 87 categories, the awards receivesubmissions from around the world and accept books written in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
Complete information about the awards, including submission guidelines and details on how to jointhe free Empowering Latino Futures BookClub, is available at www.LatinoBooks.org. The ILBA isalso supported by the Int’l Society of Latino Authors, which works to help authors succeed, andcollaborates with leading cultural institutions such as the Feria Internacional del Libro Guadalajara,the largest book event in the world, which welcomed 971,512 attendees in 2025.
