The Presbyark Update
Connecting & Informing the Presbytery of Arkansas
May 5, 2022
Save The Date!
The 150th meeting of the Presbytery of Arkansas will take place online on Saturday, June 4. During the meeting we will welcome Tod Bolsinger as the guest speaker for our Theological Discussion.
WHO IS TOD BOLSINGER?
Tod was ordained into the PCUSA in 1993 and served for 10 years as pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Hollywood and 17 years as senior pastor of San Clemente Presbyterian Church in California.  He is currently a professor at Fuller Seminary and a known consultant for corporate, nonprofit, educational and church organizations for Transformational Leadership.  He is the author of Canoeing the Mountains and Tempered Resilience: How Leaders are Formed in the Crucible of Change

WHY SHOULD YOU ZOOM OUR JUNE 4th PRESBYTERY MEETING TO HEAR HIM SPEAK (10:30am)?  You love your churches and you know that good leadership is crucial to having a vibrant congregation. He has experience - lots of it - and he understands what it takes to negotiate the changes and challenges of working with people and inviting them to a common vision.  AND, it's not too late to join us for our Mondays at 3pm discussions on the Tempered Resilience book.  Tod will also zoom with us Thursday, June 16th at 1pm as a follow-up on our leadership conversation where you can ask questions and discuss matters in your church.

WILL YOU BE SORRY IF YOU DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY TO 'MEET' HIM? YES, YOU WILL! Please join us!
We're Listening: The Art of Self-Publishing
Join us on zoom Wednesday, May 18 at 10:00am for a "We're Listening" episode about self-publishing. Rev. Marc Van Bulck (now associate pastor at Oxford Presbyterian Church, formerly director of Youth Ministries at First Presbyterian Church, Bentonville) will be our guest.  Marc is the author of the new book  Gray Man which is a fascinating read set in Pawley's Island, SC.  Almost as fascinating is his journey through self-publishing and what it takes.

If you've got that book of yours floating around in your head, you will want to join us as Marc talks about:

  • various companies
  • how he chose the company that he did
  • how to get an audio book published
  • how to market it.

If you have self-published, be sure to join us so that we can also 'listen' to you! We'll be on the Presbytery zoom (https://zoom.us/j/8271054504  Password: trinity). This is intended to be a discussion and will not be recorded. Hope to see you there!

The Presbytery Goes to The Naturals Game!
Save the date of June 15 for Presbyterian night at the ballpark. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals play the Arkansas Travelers at 7:05pm at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale. We have been given the honor of having a combined Presbyterian choir sing the National Anthem on the field before the first pitch. If anyone in your church would like to attend and/or sing, please coordinate within your congregation so that we can organize our block seating and our combined choir. We encourage church members to wear their church t-shirt if they have one, or some other Presbyterian t-shirt (Ferncilff, PDA, etc) if available.

Finding Sabbath
The rigors of ministry, particularly during the pandemic, can rob church professionals of rest and sabbath. It is important to take time for yourself to retreat, reflect and relax.
Fortunately, some of our Synod's ministry partners offer spaces of retreat for free or greatly reduced cost. You can click on this webpage of opportunities for church professionals to study, recreate, or just sleep. Contact each provider for more information and periodically check back to the webpage as information will be updated as it becomes available.
