May Book Study: Tempered Resilience
by Tod Bolsinger
|
"Leadership should generate capacity, not dependency." This quote by Ronald Heifetz is the lead quote of one of the chapters of Tempered Resilience by Tod Bolsinger who will be our featured speaker at our June Presbytery meeting (June 4th). As time is always limited at Presbytery meetings, being familiar with this work will maximize the experience of him being with us.
Carol Clark will be leading a zoom book study on May 2, 9, 16, and 22 at 3:00pm and hopes that many of you will join in for discussion. She says, "This is an understandable book but it is not an 'easy' book in the sense that it deeply probes the meaning of leadership and can be a tool of self-understanding. All attending will add richness and meaning to these concepts."
To join in, email (cbclark05@aol.com), call or text Carol (501-563-6279) so she can add you to her contact list. After the Presbytery meeting, Tod will join us on zoom for a Q&A on June 16th at 1pm.

We're Listening: The Art of Self-Publishing
|
Join us on zoom Wednesday, May 18 at 10:00am for a "We're Llistening" episode about self-publishing. Rev. Marc Van Bulck (now associate pastor at Oxford Presbyterian Church, formerly director of Youth Ministries at First Presbyterian Church, Bentonville) will be our guest. Marc is the author of the new book Gray Man which is a fascinating read set in Pawley's Island, SC. Almost as fascinating is his journey through self-publishing and what it takes.
If you've got that book of yours floating around in your head, you will want to join us as Marc talks about:
- various companies
- how he chose the company that he did
- how to get an audio book published
- how to market it.
If you have self-published, be sure to join us so that we can also 'listen' to you! We'll be on the Presbytery zoom (https://zoom.us/j/8271054504 Password: trinity). This is intended to be a discussion and will not be recorded. Hope to see you there!

The Presbytery Goes to The Naturals Game!
|
Save the date of June 15 for Presbyterian night at the ballpark. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals play the Arkansas Travelers at 7:05pm at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale. We have been given the honor of having a combined Presbyterian choir sing the National Anthem on the field before the first pitch. If anyone in your church would like to attend and/or sing, please coordinate within your congregation so that we can organize our block seating and our combined choir. We encourage church members to wear their church t-shirt if they have one, or some other Presbyterian t-shirt (Ferncilff, PDA, etc) if available.

What's Next in Christian Education Workshop
|
The global pandemic has radically changed how we meet and connect for worship and education. Even as churches are resuming in-person activities, many of the faithful are still looking for online and hybrid offerings. Join us to consider how we can continue to offer spiritual formation for all ages in an ever changing world.
This is a workshop in three parts. We will begin with a presentation from Elizabeth Christie and PRC educators on tools and practices for this moment. Then, we'll break off into 3 small groups to brainstorm and discuss our particular contexts. The webinar will take place June 9, 2022 01:00pm Central. Click here to register.

New Directions For Holy Questions
|
With accessible language, Bible stories, and connections to daily life, this book guides children and the adults who love them through the core teachings of Christianity. Kids have big questions about God and faith, and, while many of those questions don’t have one clear answer, Christians throughout the ages have given us helpful ways to think and talk about what we believe.
Join authors Clair Brown and Anita Peebles on Tuesday, May 17 at 1:00pm central for this webinar where they share their work and answer your questions.

Confirmation for the Matthew 25 Congregation
|
In the spirit of Matthew 25:31-46, the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) seeks to act boldly and compassionately to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned and poor, showing God’s love, justice and mercy. In so doing, congregations will enliven their shared faith, shared worship and shared outreach in a biblical response to the compassionate justice of God.
Commissioned to Change the World: Confirmation for the Matthew 25 Congregation, written by Mark D. Hinds, marries adolescent confirmation with the theological focus of “serving the least of these.” The curriculum affirms teenagers as God’s beloved children, anointed for ministry in the context of a covenant community of mutual encouragement and accountability.
