The adrenal glands are small triangular glands located on top of the kidneys. They produce specific hormones (cortisol, aldosterone, and adrenaline) which help your body respond to stressors. If constantly activated, your adrenal glands become exhausted and can make you more vulnerable to poor sleeping, digestive disruption, and poor concentration.
Below are the 3 phases of Adrenal exhaustion and potential symptoms.
Phase 1-Alarm:
Some initial sporadic stressors include: work,
traffic, an argument; the adrenal glands are working to
respond
to stress
Symptoms: often no symptoms
Phase 2-Resistance:
Adrenals in overdrive and don't have needed recovery time.
Symptoms: fatigue, irritability, sweet or salty food
cravings, weight gain, low libido,
poor digestion
Phase 3-Exhaustion:
The body has lost the ability to adapt & cope
Symptoms:
extreme fatigue, malaise, low mood, difficulty sleeping, memory & cognitive challenges
Once you have identified symptoms related to adrenal exhaustion, how do we fix it? The most obvious response is to reduce daily stressors. When we are unable to do so, we must address it through both diet and exercise. If you are reading this, you could win a free 30 minute massage! Please send an e-mail with the subject line "I want to win!" by Dec. 15th to: drbrentscheideman@gmail.com to be entered into our drawing. Exercise is the best stress reducing activity. Even just 30 minutes daily will help to reduce stress levels and reduce symptoms.
Supplementation is necessary once we are in phase 2 or 3. Drenatrophin and Drenamin (tablet form), adrenal tonic (liquid herbal form) or a combination of supplements is extremely helpful in supporting adrenal recovery.
Typical doses:
Drenatrophin PMG - 1 tablet per meal
Drenamin - 3 tablets per meal
Adrenal Tonic - 1 tsp/3 times per day
