MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

Celebrate and Smell the Flowers along the Journey
As we celebrated our eighteenth year in business on October 13, I must remind myself to take time to stop and smell the flowers. We have been immensely successful in our 18 years (immensely) and still Kevin always reminds me to pause and enjoy the fruits of my labor. My inclination is to always look at what’s next, what’s the next goal, the next objective? I think most of us,not only me, are always looking ahead at the goals and never fully enjoying what has been accomplished. We have learned to celebrate and be thankful for the small victories as well as the big wins.
Now, just for a moment, think about what you as an individual, and as a team, have accomplished.
Thank God for everyday He has given us and thank you DME team for your support along the journey.

September was an exciting month! We had several activities to raise money for the United Way SA and Bexar County. Our employees were generous in their giving to support the many great causes served by the United Way in our community. The HR Dept. prepared and sold hot dogs with chips and soda for lunch, Frito Pie and sodas for another day and breakfast tacos and juice were served one morning for breakfast. We also had a pie tossing contest with Kevin Kline, President, Dan Moore, COO, and Alfonso Robalin, HR Director being good sports by volunteering to be the recipients of the pie in the face! Employees paid to purchase a pie to toss at their "favorite" executive. We had some good laughs with this one. Mr. Mooney, CEO had fun tossing pies at his executive team! A silent auction was held for gift baskets that were created by each corporate department here at DME. Each team did an amazing job creating their baskets so the excitement to purchase them was high. All in all, we were able to make a sizeable contribution to the 2018 United Way Campaign.
|
Below is the gift basket that our Finance Department submitted for the silent auction. The food in the basket represented food from several countries.

ROBERT R. TAYLOR
INVENTOR OF SOFT SOAP
|
As a visionary, Robert Taylor successfully sold 14 different consumer product businesses, including 2 multi-million dollar businesses during his so-called retirement.
His favorite quote was "Whatever the mind of man can conceive, he can achieve".
He started his first company, Village Bath Products, when he was only 28 with $3,000. He started out with old fashioned hand-rolled soaps wrapped in cloth in 1964. He was a salesman with Johnson & Johnson during and after college. He called on 25 soap manufacturers and was turned down by all of them. Rejection didn't stop him. He went on to establish Minnetonka Corporation valued at $200 million as a publicly held manufacturer of gift soaps, bath oils, shampoos and candies using continued product innovation and savvy marketing.
Taylor is credited with numerous marketing concepts, one being the first liquid hand soap with a pump, SoftSoap. He was tired of the mess that bar soap created sitting in a soap dish in his home. Because he knew that his idea would most likely be copied in such a highly competitive market that was dominated by big players, he bought out a full year supply of pump manufacturer's inventory to stave off the competition. This was a big gamble that paid off. As of 2013, Inc. Magazine termed this as one of the "top three shrewdest business moves". SoftSoap grew from zero to $25 million in six months and to $100 million in their second year.
