Responding to the Wild Fires

Dear Gena;

As a previous donor to a project or organization via Place2Give and/or Karma & Cents, we wanted to take a moment to provide you with information on donating to Wild Fire initiatives in Canada and the US.

One of the immediate responses to a crisis is to make a donation. Recognizing the ever evolving needs of a community we wanted to provide you with some options for the near-term as well as future projects in response to the Wild Fires in both Canada and Hawaii. As always, we will be updating this information as we learn more about the agencies who are operating on the ground now, and into the future.

NWT and BC Fires

The wild fire situation in Canada's North and the BC interior has displaced tens of thousands of people. The communities' rebuilding needs will be immense. As the crisis is still ongoing the list of suggested organizations to support will be periodically updated. For those who would like to make a cash donation, funds will be distributed monthly starting Sept 15th via the Place2Give Foundation's Wild Fire Aid Fund. Tax receipts will be issued at time of donation. If you would like to designate your donation to a specific Canadian registered charity, please visit the Place2Give General Fund where you can specify the organization you wish to support.

Maui Fires

We have been in touch with Andrea Hernandez Rodriguez, a Philanthropy Advisor based in Hawaii who is coordinating the volunteer and fundraising efforts in Maui. She is posting updates regularly on Instagram as Changedoctor. "Given the limited housing situation in Maui, many of the activities of daily living are taking place outdoors." Annie and her team have put together an Amazon Wishlist of items that they are in need of. Please consider purchasing straight from this list as it is tailored to what is needed on the ground today and into the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

Gena Rotstein, Executive Director
