Donate bottles and cans!

Does your workplace or organization collect recyclable bottles and cans with a 10-cent redemption value? If not, set up a collection, drop off at a redemption center, and have the funds go directly to a nonprofit of your choice. Check out the Bottle Drop website for more information.

Reuse in action: coffee cups

Reduce daily waste by bringing a durable, reusable coffee cup on your next coffee shop visit. You might even get a discount for using it. Or hang out and get your daily coffee “for here” so it’s served in a real mug. Share information with your favorite coffee shop on how they can participate in a reusable coffee cup program. Check out these resources for more information:

Donate food in your community

Food businesses can help their community by donating food. It’s a great way to prevent waste and can provide benefits to your business. You can safely donate food to nonprofit organizations under the Good Samaritan Act. Businesses that donate food are eligible for tax breaks and starting a food donation program is easy. We can help you connect with food banks and pantries to provide food to people in your community. To learn more visit FoodWasteStopsWithMe.org.

School supply reuse project

Now through the end of October, Washington County is collecting new and gently used school, art and office supplies to be donated to teachers and students. Gather your unwanted supplies and put them to good use. Visit the School Supply Reuse Project webpage for a list of accepted items and donation drop-off options.
