Qualicum Beach residents will gain access to 16.2 hectares (40 acres) of permanent parkland thanks to a $2.125-million donation from the Christopher Foundation toward the Town’s purchase of the Eaglecrest Golf Course.

“The Christopher Foundation is pleased to be able play a role in the Town’s initiative that will preserve open space and parkland and ensure the continuance of a local amenity for all to enjoy,” says representative Chris Crosby.

The agreement for the Town of Qualicum Beach to purchase the Eaglecrest Golf Course was finalized at the end of October, bringing approximately 42.5 hectares (105 acres) into public ownership. With the Christopher Foundation’s contribution, about 40% of the land (40 acres) will be converted to forested parkland with walking trails and habitat restoration. 

“We’re thrilled by the generosity of this donation and what it means for the future of our community,” says Mayor Teunis Westbroek. “In a Town that’s so connected to the outdoors and nature, to preserve this space is a defining moment for Qualicum Beach.”

The next steps for the Town will include finalizing the land and asset transfer, as well as drafting a public consultation strategy for housing development and park planning.
